Sirius Starmate 8 Appears – Latest Sirius Branded Radio
The third new radio released by Sirius XM has made its appearance. The Sirius Starmate 8 appears to be a Sirius branded XM Onyx with a few bells and whistles. It is unclear whether or not the Starmate 8 will be capable of receiving the new channels offered by Sirius XM, but it is the first Sirius branded receiver released by the company in some time.

Position – Long Sirius XM
If they were to eventually move everything to the XM Band, Why come out with another Sirius Band Radio?
That eventuality is still a long time away

Sorry for caps
Sirius BRANDED XM ONYX..
then goes on to say, works on Sirius network..
Could this be an XM radio that can also read SIRI sats too?
If they eventually switch everything over to xm, what would they do to all the people who have sirius lifetime subscriptions. Also are these new 2.0 radios going to be transferable to lifetime subscriptions?
When will we know if this radio supports Satellite 2.0??
It does not. Edge has the Xtra channels, Lynx is full 2.0.
Whats up. I thought Sirius won the merger battle. As far as my needs I get every thing I want on Sirius with my starmate 5. Howard, opera, news, and the wide variety of music I listen to. Where is the touch screen? What technology are we looking at? buttons and a dial and reduced record time are the new and improved? I don’t need Martha,Oprah, or a lot of the crap that xm brought in their losing battle with Sirius. Are the xm satellites superior to Sirius’s? I thought Sirius launched a new satellite last year that was going to improve the system greatly. Now I am reading that Sirius/xm is moving towards the Xm platform. Please set me straight on what is going on. Sirius content is all I need and want. I hope this isn’t the beginning of the end of a great company and service.
does not have-“S-seek alert”
I miss that option
Despite all the claims, even on Sirius’ own website, the Starmate 8 does NOT support A la Carte programming. I bought it mainly for that reason, only to have Sirius tell me it wasn’t compatible when I tried to sign up for A La Carte. They told me “Uh, sorry, our website is out of date”. Classy. If it wasn’t such a hassle to uninstall it from my car, I would’ve returned it. Totally uncool, Sirius.
My starmate 4 started sending out distorted Fm signals so i ended up with a Starmate 8. i have a lifetime sub, they charged $75 for the switch but told me there is no limit on radio swap outs (there used to be). The starmate 8 is a bit inferior, no jump button to your favorite station anymore, 20 less pre-selects and a few other missing options. It is easier to navigate. However I have heard it is more reliable, so maybe that is OK.
I hope they do not abandon the sirius satellites, they are in a higher orbit and have better coverage, especially in southern Mexico where i live 5 months a year.
I was glad my current docking stations are compatible. I have 3 of them, my house, my truck & RV, changing those out would have added more cost.
