Sirius XM Brings Back Strobe and Backspin
Sirius XM subscribers complained like hell and management finally listened. Starting January 15th you’ll have the disco/classic dance you can stand on Strobe and all the old school hip-hop your woofers can handle on Backspin.
Sadly, some of the loudest voices I have heard here at SiriusBuzz were yelling for the return of the Boombox channel but… no word yet.
Additionally, The Beat Morning Show will launch on BPM on January 15. The daily show will feature popular dance hits and be hosted by former Beat program director Geronimo.
“Bringing back The Strobe and Backspin, and adding The Beat Morning Show, is part of our commitment to respond to our subscribers’ overwhelming passion for our service,” said Scott Greenstein, President and Chief Content Officer, SIRIUS XM Radio. “We are fortunate to have an enthusiastic audience that embraces satellite radio with unprecedented fervor. We will continue to listen to them as we strive to create the best audio entertainment experience available.”
Thankyou mr green! I have four radios and wanted to buy the services for my wife and sister in law cause they loved the strobe.now my christmas decision is made…good call guys
Merry christmas
Thank you for bringing the Strobe back, now for boombox and Movin Easy. I will not be cancelling my subscription as I was planning to do.
yeah all we need now is for them to bring back our share price
kick ass!
Thank you Scott Greenstein BUT we now need you to stop the constant interruptions by dj’s on MUSIC channels. We want to hear non-stop music. We do not want to hear about ringtones or what inspired the artist to write the song or any other trivial BS. We subscribe because we don’t like the constant interruptions on FM radio.
Thank you.
Now the XM passionate must also be screaming for some channels to return and they also may recipricate.
Seriously happy about this. Backspin was one of my favorite channels prior to the merge. Backspin will most likely be a mix of the previous channel and boombox.
Dear Scott Greenstein, if you get rid of djs on sirius I’m cancelling and buying a slacker portable or whatever works. Enough is enough. The service is starting to feel bare bones already.
Since you guys are listening, Please keep BUBBA THE LOVE SPONGE!!!! Please.
Say good-bye to Pop2k! Sirius is removing the new channel from there Sirius subs to make room for the two returning channels. Here is a part from an email response from Sirius:
From Nathan
SIRIUS listeners: don’t get too used to Pop2k…
ME: Are any channels having to be removed for them, or is the new music channel count going to be 71? Does this affect the return/debut of The Bridge at all?
JON ZELLNER: Pop2K will come down on Sirius. No other changes, Bridge will return as planned.
THIS IS BAD! I would take pop2k over these two returning channels any day.
Correct me if I’m wrong but Backspin was all hip-hop (which I like). Boombox was break-beat, mash-ups, electro, etc. I would doubt you’d find Boombox music on Backspin…
Really good news that Backspin is coming back.. now wheres the love for the Boombox??
Common Mr. Greenstein, call DJ Icey and Liquid Todd and cut a deal already. You’ll get a lot of subscribers back, make current subscribers happy, and probably get more!
I am a strong advocate for bringing channels back with advertisements as an online-only supplement to the existing service. Let the channels support themselves via advertising and have Sirius take a cut of the ad revenues. There is no rational reason to not have a stronger presence online.
Oh my God! Management actually listening to the subscribers!! Whay a novel concept!!!
Even if these channels return Slacker will prevail.
During the last month since the loss of Boombox, Slacker G2 portable player has proved to be 100 times better, sorry Sirius you blew it.
What about bringing back my favorite channel – Beyond Jazz?
I also have a question…..
Are they going to be canceling any channels or lowering sound quality to make room for the return of these channels?
oh but lets keep the martha stewart channel with her snotty nosed
daughter
goodness!!!!!!!!!!
Glad they are listening. Not the music I want to hear but a step in the right direction. Listening to the people that pay your salary is always a smart move. I will reserve judgement until the retooled Boneyard (formally Buzzsaw, which was far better then boneyard ever was on XM) Maybe they should think about getting rid of all the special single artist channels. AC/DC radio is great, saw them live last Friday night and the are awesome. They are truly classic hard rock, but 24/7 is just way too much of anything for Months. Elvis has been on for years wasting perfectly good bandwidth. Nothing against Elvis I like him too, he is part of Rock and roll history just like Zeppelin, Bruce, AC/DC (all 7/24 channels) but enough is enough.
If I want nothing but one artist I’ll put in a CD!
As an ol skool BBoy from Jersey in the early 80’s, breakin on refrigerator boxes and linoleum, carry around a Panasonic Box that took 12 D Batteries. I won a $25 in a break dance contest in 1983 battlin about 4 local crews.. My poppin was electrifying..
BackSpin was the ONLY reason I subscribed to Sirius in 2005.
Hey North Jersey BBoy,
What kind of funky M&M wanabe, jive ass gibberish is that spewing out of your white trash gangta glorifyin’ suck hole. Speak English, you freak! You won $25 in a break dance contest in ’83? Who gives a fuck! You say you subscribed, only to listen to that one stupid channel? That’s bullsheeeeiiiite. You gots to expand yo whore-izons, cause u be tired of runnin’ from da sirens, wid yo boyz I ain’t b lyin’. You understood that, didn’t you? I thought so. Stop listening to that ghetto shit that you think is so hellaBAD, and start acting like an intelligent human being. Your “poppin” days are over, Jerky Boy. Time for change, as the man taking over says.
Please don’t pollute this site with your nonsense again. You are very annoying, and you sound like an idiot. Thank you.
Wow Steve O someone better check if North Jersey BBoy is still alive after your dissssss… he may have tried to off himself for crissakes…. although I found your retort pulverizingly funny someone should still check on the Break Dancing King from ’83 and by the the way The Strobe is an awesome channel being from the 80’s and a former DJ I I enjoyed the music and the era I listen to all music and feel slightly offended by your comments wanna throw down yo??:)
thank god because since the switch my radio has not alearted me to one song that is on my fav’s becasue the were all freestyle songs and there only on the strobe ..i was depressing ..i went and got the good old book of cd’s out because i didnt have anything i liked any more
The return of the Strobe is a great Christmas gift. Our letters were heard! Thank you.
What about bringing back the beat completely BPM and the beat listeners are completely different!! A morning show is great and I will listen but what about afternoon and night time when I used to the beat the most!!
Anthony is right on!! Especially the weekends and take off that god awful air bpm crapt. Hate you mel, hate bpm and hate you jon.
The return of Strobe is great news but
South Florida just started an oldies dance station at 93.9 MIA this morning. Thanks for helping us get a new dance station Sirius/XM !!!
“Please don’t pollute this site with your nonsense again. You are very annoying, and you sound like an idiot. Thank you.”
Steve-O, you sound like the white trash hermit that you are. Accusing someone else of being an idiot. GEEZ! Not only did you play up stupid and ignorant stereotypes but you revealed the type of retard that you are. I know exactly what he’s talking about because I used to breakdance in my youth. I happen listen to Backspin and I’m neither “gangsta” nor “ghetto.” That’s my taste in music, so f— off!! You don’t have to like it but it’s coming back. You ever heard of a radio knob? Use it!
Thank you for bringing backspin back…one of my favorites. I subscribed to Sirius mostly for Howard Stern and good music….you can get rid of all the other goofy chit like Martha Stewart and Kid’s channel(WTF Really?)…doctor radio..news channels..sports talk and more sports talk.
If you are serious about listening to your customers, then bring back MOVIN’ EASY. The Escape (76) isn’t even close to being a replacement. If you want to insist that it is, then simply change the programing on Escape to the former great Movin’ Easy programing and we’ll be satisfied.
I was really enjoying Pop2K. It was fast becoming my favorite channel. I’d rather see Hits 1 go or either of the 2 replacing channels. Why not just add it to the line up? Boo Sirius!
This is good, now could you please play just a few songs that were actually hits on the 60s, 70s and Soultown stations. Not everyone wants to hear the wide playlist. I switched to Sirius because XM plays 9/10 songs from the B side. There’s a reason some songs didn’t sell – because they stink. And we don’t need to pay to hear them now.
And the Jazz linup must be restored, or I doubt I’ll stay with Sat. radio. Enough is enough. Need Planet Jazz and at least one more. See the old Sirius linup.
Thanks for bringing back the old school hip hop. For old school guys like me we to have it on a daily bases. After the merger i had nothing to fill the void of Backspin. Much love. Thanks again.
What a horrible decision to ditch Pop2K for “old skool rap”.
I’ve already complained to Sirius.
There is nothing left that plays hits from this decade…
thanx a lot 4 bringin backspin back!!! old skool hip hop 4ever!!
Backspins Back! Oh happy day!
To complete this we need more BOOMBOX!
where is the strobe? not back yet if so what channel
i had sirius for one reason… the strobe. i like disco/dance music and the strobe was perfect for me. when it dissappeared, my subscription to sirius disappeared. they said “there wasn’t enough demand for it”… that’s why they did away with it. sure, that makes sense. they must be right because no one (except me) likes disco/dance music. people that are at nightclubs, bars, lounges and private parties must all be crazy for dancing and listening to it. the djs that play it must be retarded for actually playing it. rock music is what has energy and a beat to it… right? thats the stuff you want to go to a nightclub and dance to.
the 33 rock/pop station on sirius isn’t enough. EVERY channel should be rock. after all, i think it makes perfect sense to pay for 33 rock stations when you can listen to 15 or so of them on the fm dial in any major city for free! more rock stations!!!
what sirius should really do is create a “DISCO SUCKS” station dedicated to all the people who love rock music.
Glad they brought the Strobe back! I listen to it every day! Thanks management for bringing the Strobe Back!
Here we go AGAIN………….
I cannot believe that Sirius has, once again, removed The Strobe from their line up. You can now only get The Strobe online.
It truly blows my mind that Sirius doesn’t listen to their subscribers.
I went from having 4 subscriptions…..to NONE.
It that doesn’t get you to listen, nothing will.
Sirius went frrm a customer driven company to what exists today. Need I say more?
Bring back the customer service that you had 8 years ago, when I first became a subscriber. If you do that, I gaurantee to re-activate my 4 receivers.
Till then…..ADIOS!!!!!!
