For the last five weeks the car buying public has considered the Hyundai Sonata more than any other car. For satellite radio investors this is great news because the Hyundai sonata carries 100% satellite radio penetration. That means that each Sonata that rolls off of the assembly line comes complete with a three month promotional trial to XM Satellite Radio.

While some may scoff at the Hyundai brand, the company has made wonderful strides in consumer acceptance, safety, features, and styling. The Edmunds Auto Observer, which tracks the auto channel closely monitors not only car sales, but car safety records, the consumer pulse, and many other things. The Sonata is gaining converts. It is a well equipped car delivered to the consumer for a reasonable price. March 2010 saw a 50% jump in Sonata sales, with nearly 19,000 deliveries. That, according to Edmunds put the Sonata into the echelon of the Toyota Camry and Honda Accord. The Hyundai Sonata was the 12th best selling vehicle in March of 2010.

Understanding the OEM channel, and how it relates to satellite radio is imperative if you are investing in Sirius XM. For a long time the mission was simply to get into as many brands as possible. The focus then shifted to the number of installations, and now is graduating to which models deliver the biggest bang for the buck.

The top twenty sellers in March virtually all carry satellite radio as an option, and many have deep installation rates of over 50%:
