SiriusXM Gets Social with Twitter Driven Political Radio Show
That’s right, “Politics Powered by Twitter,” a live show powered by the Twitterverse, will be making its debut on the SiriusXM P.O.T.U.S channel tonight.
The one hour daily political show will air at 6pm ET on the non-partisan channel (124) and will include all kinds of political tweets from politicians, journalists, and celebrities that feel the need to chime in on key political issues.
Subscribers (preferably those not driving) will be invited to send comments and questions to @politicsradio during program to be part of the conversation as it is happening.
“The 24-hour news cycle has transformed into a 140-character news cycle,” said Dick Costolo, CEO, Twitter. “During the election season, Twitter is a place where news breaks, candidates connect with constituents, and discussions flourish. Politics Powered by Twitter on SiriusXM is a great way to dive deeper into real-time election news and continue the conversations that begin on Twitter.”
Checking on Twitter to grab feedback and gauge listener opinion is nothing new for many of the hosts on SiriusXM but, this afternoon drive show, hosted by Lee Brenner and Slade Sohmer, is the first of its kind to base its entire format on Tweets!
Don’t forget to follow @SiriusBuzz (all the cool kids are doing it) and let us know what you think.
Spencer, The first thing that came to mind when I saw the PR about “Politics Powered by Twitter” was that maybe this was the start of sponsored programs or stations. Is it possible that Twitter pays a fee to have this branded program on POTUS?
Lots of shows, both radio and television, encourage fans to join them live on Twitter during the course of their show as a way to increase engagement. Is it great for Twitter? Yes. Are they paying for it? No. They are providing a great added value at no cost to the show, Twitters reward is having their service mentioned and used.
So, it is highly unlikely Twitter is paying SiriusXM to have this program.
Thanks for the reply Charles.
I notice those other programs that mention to get involved via twitter, but the “Powered by Twitter” program title was never there.
Just hoping.
OK, is drivetime the best time to be doing a twitter show?
