Howard Stern Still Fighting for Bubba The Love Sponge
It has been a couple of weeks since it was announced that Bubba The Love Sponge had turned down the deal offered to him by Sirius XM and yet, as recent as yesterday, Howard made a point of saying that he was still in talks trying to make a deal happen. The question is, why?
Since leaving his afternoon slot on Howard 101, Bubba has signed a contract to broadcast an uncensored version of his radio show with Radioio.com. Considering the limited number of hours in a day, this means the only thing Howard could be fighting for is the rebroadcast of Bubba’s current terrestrial radio show.
Howard makes a point to remind us on a weekly basis just how great his show and this company is now that he has uncensored freedom so, why does he fight to tie a rehashed, watered down, terrestrial radio feed to his Howard 101 name?
I think it is important to note that this company was clearly in a better place with the uncensored Bubba The Love Sponge Show on their roster and that losing talent to any kind of possible competition is a bad idea but, if Sirius XM really is about uncensored exclusive content, it’s time to move on.
Let it go Howard, this fight is a lost cause. Do what you do best and introduce your listeners to some new talent worthy of your channels (not a wack packer). Just make sure, when your fans fall in love, that Sirius XM is dedicated to keeping that talent happy so your fans and subscribers don’t have to go through this kind of aggravation ever again.
I will agree with finding new talent not heard on the stern channels before. Instead a wackpack show. I think he is fighting for bubba now knowing that his FM deal is done in a year, and he can do 4 hrs uncensored on sirius after that. Should sirius choose to pay him.
Let Bubba, the Love Sponge soak up somebody else’s money.
It’s time to reward shareholders who have stuck with this company for years, and years.
Also, your point about Howard developing some new talent is the right idea.
BTLS has made it pretty clear that he has no intentions of returning full time to Sirius. Where would the pride be and how pathetic do you think BTLS would be for returning?
Sirius made a final decision and they should stick with that regardless of the after effects.
BTLS is content gold for any radio listeners! They have a huge following due to Sirius listening to Howard and bringing BTLS on board. BTLS has been in radio for 25 years and gets payed fractions less than other “talent” like Opera or Martha Steward or Mad Dog. Why is that? The channels are being waisted on non radio personel. People like Eminem that don’t even show up to work and get multi-millions, while BTLS is there for the Listeners for 6-8 hrs a day. It was great when BTLS and Howard first got on Sirius uncensored!! But management dosn’t care about what the paying customers want only what Hollywood stars they can smooze with. Let TV and Movie stars stay on their medium and let the REAL RADIO STARS make you money for the share holders!
i miss bubba on sirius. once the stern show is over, there is nothing to listen to on Howards channels. So i listen to stern, then off to the music channels!
SiriusXM has made so many mis-steps its amazing for such a big corporation. Martha, Oprah, Dr. Laura, Mad Dog, skate boarders, skiers, TV stars, blah-blah-blah. What listener cares about a Paul McCartney concert? I listen to Bubba live every day, Howard is the loser b/c I catch him on the repeat if I have a chance. My sub expires in July and unless something gets better, my receiver is out the window!
Yes howard is going to bat Ha!Ha!Ha! thats just so chickin dip eaten bubba can feel like he has something going on everyone is talkin about the stock scam pump and dump bubba put a poll on his website will internet radio be the death of terrestial radio
internet radio is losing on bubbas own poll and only 300 have voted
his army has abandoned him it looks like ,sorry army
I agree with Howard that Sirius should fight to keep the Bubba replay even though it’s not as good as the live show. The reason is to hold on to the diehard Bubba fans and to keep Bubba from bashing Sirius on his other two platforms. If Bubba has a contract with Sirius, then he will be more civil to them on his other shows. With no contract, there will be constant Sirius bashing on the Bubba show and constant attempts to steal away Sirius listeners
He is a hack. No add revenue. Don’t let the dorr hit you….
Your the hack! You would not know what a good show is!
Funny I never heard “Bubba” until Howard promoted him, and to be honest he didn’t have that special gift that Howard does. If Howard left, so too would I, Bubba’s departure has no impact on me and is almost a footnote.
Adam Carolla announced that his podcast will be broadcast on H101 next week.
He talked about expanding to a two-hour podcast, which will cut out commercials and breaks on the Sirius broadcast.
Adam also said he told his producers to “load up” on guests to appear on the show, to make it more attractive to listeners to make it a permanent gig.
Bye bye, Bubba.
I have had various Sirius systems over the past 5 years. Now, Sirius “Hits One” is no more than the same trash I can here on local FM so predictable every day, same format same BS. Initially Howard was fresh, new exciting. Now, it’s becoming same old, same old. The only show I was listening to on a regular basis and recording was BTLS. Today I have a new iPod Touch that supplies all my music needs. I can listen to BTLS on Radioio uncensored. I don’t think it’s worth it to keep Sirius any longer
I’m just thankful if we had to lose someone it wasn’t Howard. It does look like Sirius/xm and Bubba could at least work out a distribution deal. Sirus could be like the cable companies and pay Bubba for the content and they will provide the pipes. Maybe this could work for a lot of other talent like Carolla,Bonaduce and my favorite Chelsea Handler.
Bubba was planning a move to radioio long before he decided not to take the offer from Sirius. So now we will get the Adam Corolla podcast that is not well produced and will still be available for download. Sounds like it’s still a work in progress.
Since Bubba left I have cancelled 3 of my 4 sirius subs, Now have radioio up and running just fine Bubba is sounding just great, and when the free six months is up on #4 it too shall die!!!!
Post merger the playlists on the music channels narrowed dramatically. Not unusual to hear the same song every 4-6 hours. The whole thing is so East Coast/Metro centered. Now with Corolla we can get a second (remember Greg Fitzimmons) West Coast snide/snarky supposed wit to interview a bunch of D-listers about their no talent lives. A lot like what Howard has become. While Bubba may not appeal to most NYC residents, he was able to get thousands to come and pay to see him at appearances around the country. I don’t think anybody would go to see Corolla unless it was at a comedy club with others on the bill. He failed miserably on his previous radio show and bringing his podcast with the horrible audio to Sirius is not a great step forward in entertainment. Bubba had some drawbacks also but there was a reason he had the second most listened to show on Sirius and it wasn’t only because he was uncensored in the beginning.
let it go????????????/ are you crazy!!!!!!!! bubba puts on when hell of a show….i love the fact i can listen howard in the morning and then bubba in the afternoon!!! the day howard calls it quits…..so am i without bubba!!!! and every single person i know that has sirius agrees with me…bubba is just as good..if not better in his own way…as howard!!!!! sumone tell me where i can find bubba?
Sirius/xm is going to hell in a hurry. Their new equipment sucks. I have 3 accounts which I plan to cancel because they couldn’t reach a deal with Bubba, he was the only reason I subscribed to sirius in the first place. I guess i’m gonna have to get a droid and listen to him on radioio. To hell with sirius
Siruis must be a company of idiots. I would NEVER buy all that equipment for the house and car and pay their high fees when I can pick up my cell phone or turn on the computer?!?! You’re supposed to make things EASIER, not more difficult with LESS content. Oprah? Jamie Foxx? please…
Anyone with more than one sub now is a dolt.
They are making their own devices obsolete with the smartphone app and the ability to log-in through your computer.
You can install the mobile app on any Smartphone and log into the same account from multiple locations.
Without Bubba they need to lower my bill. They need Bubba back uncensored
Bubba is not a “wack packer. He is a talented broadcaster that when his show was live on Sirius was the number two show. Sirius screwed up when they went to a rebroadcast version and pissed the fans off. You do not drop your number two show if your smart. Apparently there is a dumb executive running the talent on Sirius who would rather have Martha Stewart on radio with ten percent of the fans Bubba’s show had. I am sure you will see that Sirius lost a million or more subscribers after letting Bubba go. Their stock will stay below two bucks forever with that executive in charge!
Are you Bubba’s agent? How do you know what went on betw. Bubba and mgmnt? For all we know maybe Mel tried to work with Bubba but he wouldn’t bend or he really wanted to go internet. I agree with you on finding real radio talent or at least people who actually do a show.
Its real simple, Sirius, equipment sucks, they lost Bubba, now less howard and rap up show = less me ! I’m done
please bring back bubba and the boys, they were a huge part of howard 100/101
Sirius really dropped the ball. Although I love Howards show the BTLS really brought something to the table that was worth the price of subscription. If howard would not have resigned Sirius XM would have most likely died within two years without the two of them channels with out worth while content.
Howard is doing less original work, deservidley so, the loss of Bubba I’m sure will effect the bottom line!
Bubba has had to fight for his recognition on Sirius and finally had enough! If Sirius had a half a brain in charge of their dealings they would have known its a no brainer to have done everything they could to keep Bubba and his super talented crew on the air!
Bubba, Brent, Manson, Spice Boy and of course NED you are missed and hopefully sirius eventually sees what a mistake they made by not resigning you!
I made BTLS everything he is today. He owes me all of his fame and fortune. I am the real radio God!
your facts are incorrect. Listen and you will learn.
Bubba had the best show on sirius radio. HOWARD HAS LOST HIS EDGE WITH ALL HIS WEALTH,I MEAN THREE DAYS A WEEK AND HE STILL BITCHES ABOUT WORKING TO MUCH.I CAME TO SIRIUS BECAUSE OF HOWARD BUT I STAYED BECAUSE I LOVED BUBBAS SHOW.If they wise up and get Bubba back I’m a life subscriber,if they don’t i’m gone. When Howard is gone Bubba can be the anchor for Sirius and keep them viable for far less than Howard is making.Pay the guys and Bubba a real world number and let Howard drift into the sun set with his stupid America’s got talent TV show which will fire him in short order anyway. Bubba rules ,Howard is a has been.
