Tyler..NO OFFENSE to you but let’s leave politics out of your posts…and thats why it’s a secret ballot so we don’t have to reveal our free choices.
I thought this site was for siri info not elections.
Sometimes the truth hurts SH. Sometimes it feels good.
Rich..Plain and simple…the TRUTH is that politics and religion don’t belong on this site.
This site should be about SIRI. The articles should be relevant. Many investors here have significan stakes in the company.
sat radio has the most election coverage in 500 years of presidency.so dont bash this piece embrace it.
Nothing to hide here: McCain.
XM
It’s not about hiding ..it’s all about the siri state of affairs to blog about. END of conversation. Go Siri Go
Yea, lets leave the politics off- But since you started this- the gov’t has been “spreading the wealth” for years. Renters “spread their wealth” to homeowners, who get to deduct part of their mortgage payment. Single people “spread their wealth” to those with children, who get to deduct their children. Those who buy regular cars “spread their wealth” to those who buy hybrids, and get a tax deduction.
It all seems silly to me…but that’s the way gov’t works. Obama certainly didn’t invent it.
This article seems out of place. A forum post at best. How about politics: https://siriusbuzz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=26 or humor: https://siriusbuzz.com/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=27 but not the front page of this site. Unless this is now a political humor news blog?
Tyler
For heavens sake Tyler you do and awesome job on this site and you put whatever the hell you want on it. Thanks for all the time and dedication!
Thanks.. “long until the end” Savery.Nice attempt at humor while everyone in this SCAM STOCK is losing everything. A few branches of our beloved government had a hand in DESTROYING this company’s shareholders. Yeah.. I’M laughing. NOT.
Jonathan Adelstein assured which way I’m voting
this is a sirius site isnt it????????????
LOL…..
The week was over for goodness sakes, and the cartoon was humerous.
I dno’t care who readers are voting for. The line was…
“Sirius Buzz Readers may find it humerous regardless of their politics, or favorite candidate. That being said, who are you voting for.”
Perhaps I should have put the line in italics, as it was merely humor.
The cartoon did have Sirius implications. Sirius was ‘required’ to make available several stations for exclusive minority broadcasting. The NAB wanted even more. How’s that for spreading the wealth?
I think both candidates have potential benefits for Sirius.
McCain: Lower business tax good for Sirius. Lower capital gains good for stockholders.
Obama: Middle class having more money for things like satellite radio good for Sirius. (Wealthy people already have satellite radio if they want it and likely won’t cancel with a return to Clinton tax levels.) Bigger push for alternative energy = more new Sirius equipped vehicles that people are excited about.
I think growth is the most important thing for the company. Would you rather pay lower capital gains tax on a company that is slowly growing or a higher tax in a company that is growing more rapidly?
If the merger was still in limbo, the choice would be obvious. But now I don’t think the choice is quite so clear.
But I guess we will only know if one of the candidates is either good or bad for SIRI…at least for he next four years.
I have been in Sales for a long time. One of the first rules is never to talk about politics or religion. If it come up change the subject as fast as you can.
It’s so easy to offend people even if your’re intentions are good.
So I stay away from those topics.
Wienkes is full of it.
I don’t think SiriusXM will hit .25 a share and we will start the climb back up after the 3 qtr cc. I will stay with that projection.
imho
vaporgold
Maybe we should all write in Mark Wienkes for President!
Doesn’t matter to me that Tyler opened this topic with a cartoon, which is funny and has implications for capital gains.
Personally I will glad when all the “I love me” nonsense is over in a few days, and a new POTUS-elect is known, and the country can get back to what’s most important: 1) national security and 2) the economy, in that order.
There are plenty of other areas requiring attention as well but U.S. military and financial strength are at the top two. Without them we can forget about social security, medical security, etc.
I lean towards McCain but whichever candidate gets 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue as his new mailing address, I want to see increased, corrective, forward-leaning action against terrorism (a global threat, not just against us), and against losing supremacy among top military powers. Imagine Communist China, rising alarmingly fast militarily, becoming the predominant military power?.
Domestically, I want to see a leader in action at the top that has business acumen and discipline, moral courage, and the balls to do what is right to restore confidence in our economy.
The above said, I agree with others that perhaps SiriusBuzz needs a Politics Forum.
Obama is going to win in a landslide.
He isn’t a Terrorist. A Communist. OR a SOCIALIST.
These are buzz words used by the Republicans to strike FEAR into voters hearts.
Much like the tactic used in 2004 when the Republicans EFFECTIVELY made Kerry(A WAR HERO) look like a traitor and BUSH(a coward, and a guy who couldn’t even finish the National Guard) look like a TOUGH WAR HERO. They used fear to scare middle America….and sadly it WORKED.
In a large part because Kerry listened to his advisors too much and didn’t fight back. Like Gore before him, he didn’t develop a spine until AFTER the election.
But if you don’t respond to attacks, if you don’t DEFINE yourself, you let OTHERS define you. And that is the Democrats M.O.
Obama is more like Clinton tho. He fights back.
The Democrats are not known as dirty fighters like the Republicans.
Anyway…about the cartoon. It’s using the FEAR that Obama is going to take your money away. I find this so laughable.
The Rich and the Republican Party are ALWAYS crying SOCIALISM! about the Democrats….YET under BUSH’s watch we’ve experienced the WORST case of overspending and deregulation EVER in government and wall street. BECAUSE of that….the government is BAILING OUT THEIR RICH BUDDIES AND THE COMPANIES that GOT US IN THIS FRIGGIN MESS!!
They are TAKING OVER A TRILLION DOLLARS FROM YOU AND ME…um the hard working average TAXPAYERS….and RE-DISTRIBUTING it UP to the FRIGGIN RICH.
UM…but they don’t call THAT SOCIALISM.
Obama IS going to tax the RICH. YES. To help the poor.
BUT he’s NOT going to tax bone heads like JOE THE PLUMBER. He isn’t going to tax average people like YOU and ME.
Hes going to tax those earning more than a QUARTER OF A FRIGGIN MILLION DOLLARS.
I am so tired of the Republican’s scare tactics…and AM THRILLED that they are going to LOSE this time and LOSE BIG. We had a 4 Trillion dollar SURPLUS under Clinton.
We are now pushing 11 TRILLION DEFICIT after 8 years of Bush.
McCain would be MORE of the same.
I am just SO tired of the contradictions of the Republican party. Subsidies are FINE for their rich Oil buddies…but BAD when it comes to alternative fuel.
Millions of Americans can’t afford health care. And EVEN the ones who HAVE it, are often denied life saving procedures because their FOR PROFIT insurance companies are fixing the game against them. I HATE it when RICH Republicans with the BEST health care SCOFF at ANY attempt to LEVEL the playing field and HELP the average American afford quality Health care.
Bush changed the bankrupcy laws to FAVOR BIG business and make it almost impossible for the average American to declare. 90% of all bankrupcies are filed BECAUSE of medical disasters in a family. THIS IS A CRIME.
Imagine if when you called the fire department because your HOUSE was on fire….and the firefighter asked you over the phone if you had insurance. If you said no, he’d say “I’m SORRY WE CAN’T COME OVER TO SAVE YOU THEN”.
THAT isn’t SOCIALISM. It’s a RIGHT.
And yet….ANY attempt to make health a RIGHT…..is met by the Republicans with crys of SOCIALISM!!!
The same goes for Wall Street and this fear that Obama is going to be a Socialist and STEAL YOUR MONEY.
Puh-Lease.
More fear.
We need sweeping change and reform.
Obama is the man. The time is now. Change is coming and the Republican party is CLINGING tooth and nail to the last remnants of their power. It’s the other parties turn now. Deal with it. I and most of the other 95% of the population couldn’t be happier…and are not going to let the REPUBLICAN FEAR MACHINE work this time.
They’ll have to try and “STEAL” the election again like they did in 2000. 😛
One of the greatest things about Sirus XM radio…
Freedom of Speech.
Thats funny you should say that Spanyo…because THAT was my very reason for initially investing in Sirius. Not so much Howard Stern…but for the whole Freedom of Speech thang.
Because about 4 years ago, there was this scary trend of sqwashing free speech going on.
My mistake was then letting that coupled with the hype of sat radio cloud my normally clear judgement. The battle with the FCC became too personal and I kept believing the promise. I should have pulled out and watched from the sidelines.
Heck…If I had waited and not gotten involved, I could have ended up buying the same amount of shares for 2 grand that I ended up sinking 30 grand into over the last 4 years. DOH!
Lesson learned.
Friggin,
I’m in a similar boat. I should have listened to my wife and started with a smaller investment. But I was so sure that after the merger, the price would never drop below 2 bucks again.
I still think we will make money on our investments. But it will take more time and it won’t be as much. $2.50 seems so far away, but it didn’t take that long to get here from there. So it can get back there and more. Maybe faster than we can imagine. But like you, I would be happy getting out even right now. It would be like escaping from a prison camp with only a few scratches.
But the sick thing is that if I do get out at break even, I will probably just wait for it to go back down and start buying more…but in much smaller chunks this time. I think that this stock will be a very valuable lesson. One in which you almost totally wreck your car, but you somehow come out unscathed. Then you actually drive a little more safely…at least for a while.
I do think that averaging down is not a bad strategy. But I would wait longer. So far, waiting has been the best strategy for this stock.
I wish I had the balls to sell at 1.30, but I would have probably bought back in at.99 and then would not be able to claim a loss (because of the 30 day rule.)
I keep having dreams that SIRI drops to near zero. So I have a buy order in at a ridiculously low price.
If they go bankrupt, I might actually get this price and then be able to sell when it goes up a dime on speculation… getting my total back.
I want to buy now, but if I do and it goes lower then I will truly be a slave to this stock. My new mantra is “Preserve capital”.
As long as I have some cash left I have some power. If it goes down I get happy. If it goes up I get happier. When it stays the same I just have to go do anything but watch the price.
Until SIRI goes to zero it can always go lower. I never believed that before, but now I believe that ANYTHING is possible with this stock. The only thing I really know about this stock is that I know nothing about it.
Sorry to all for getting off topic. But it would seem that in this particular thread some of you won’t mind getting away from the politics.
Im voting fo Ron Paul (write-in). But I hope Obama wins– anything to get. Paulson and the pro-market manipulators out.
Hey Tyler. Definitely you are entitled to your topic of choice.
Hey we posters are happy to post whatever we deem of interest after your topics, get here.
Vaporgold. It’s good to see you feeling positive regarding Siri. A good sign.
Hey Friggen, did N.Pelosi steal login id????? LOL.
Too funny.
I myself will vote for McCain. However, Friggen, I reside in a state that is 67% for Obama. So no need to put a hit on me.
I am however very supportive of a president that can change things for the better. And hopefully create some real SEC guidelines, that are actually enforced. So I will root for whoever wins.
I will add, that Yahoo became overrun with zealots regarding political posting, and soon became one of the reasons for the complete demise of the board.
The other being the complete demise of the stock price.
Hey Mel. Show me the money on earnings announcement……………………….
Yeah I hear ya. But the BIG thing right now….the 800lb Gorilla in the room isn’t BK…but a 1 for 50 reverse split.
I want to average down one last time. For a few grand, I’d pretty much DOUBLE the amount of shares I have. But the threat of such a radical RS is the only thing that is stopping me. If you have 10,000 shares…a 1 for 50 reverse split will turn it into 200 overnight.
THATS CRAZY.
Sure the stock will have an $12 share price. But HOW LONG do you think it’ll take before the shorts eat that away to a $1 again???
And if THAT happens…your shares will be TRULY worthless.
THIS is my biggest fear. That Sirius will resort to this STUPID tactic. And for WHAT? For a TEMPORARY feeling of safety??? Just to say HEY! LOOK! WE’RE OVER $5 a share????
It is DEATH to all longs who vote for this.
I could deal with the FCC. I could deal with the debt. I could risk it all…..but THIS?
The threat of a HUGE RS is the ONLY thing stopping me from throwing more money into Sirius.
Hey Friggen.
Will Mel address the RS on earnings announcement? Or dance around it. I have no idea with the guy.
If there is a yes vote on the RS that could be a huge buying opportunity. Imagine the fear. The price drops. We buy for dirt cheap. Housing bottoms next spring and the economy starts turning around. Sirius is able to extend 180 days until 360 without fear of delisting. Q3 results are good and Q4 guidance is really good. Share prices go comfortably over a buck.
No RS and we got a bunch of shares dirt cheap… and we get to keep all of them.
You’ve got to have a little imagination here. RS could be very bad. But merely a threat of an RS could be very good. You have to look at it from all angles.
We should start an RS debate thread.
RS for president!
i dunno Socalrunningfool. All i know is that the vote results will be announced on December 18th right?
But if Mel mentions the RS on the 3Q call…and says there will be none…it could be huge.
So between now and then might be a good time to add shares at this low price. At least thats what I’m thinking.
Then I have until December 18th to sell should I get cold feet. I doubt it’ll go much lower.
But who knows with Sirius.
I just can’t wait until all this stuff is settled, and Sirius is judged only on it’s own ya know?
And Spanyo…yes…perhaps a RS would be good for those who buy AFTER a RS and after the shorts eat it up. But that could take years just to get back to break even for those who’ve been holding shares for awhile.
I HAVE A DREAM
(no not a wet dream)
I HAVE A DREAM
That Siri is above $ 2.50 and I got even
I HAVE A DREAM
That GS Weinke was declared INSANE by SiriusXM shareholders and subs and proven wrong
I HAVE A DREAM
That for one the FEDs and the SEC uphold the law of land in a lawless wall street and stopped naked shorts
After all is n’t the election day the largest gamble and lottery day that americans take a gamble on a president that can ruin their lives like the current one
When is the time to vote against the RS? Will SIRI send a proxy packet to shareholders? Do we need to go to the SIRI site? I don’t want to miss my opportunity to vote against the RS. I want a paper ballot. Will Siriusbuzz keep its readers informed? Will Siriusbuzz take a stand on the RS issue? I agree with Friggin. RS is a horrible thing for longs. I will short SIRI if there is an RS. That will be a good way to recover.
Incidentally, I rec’d a report from EdwardJones that had a chart showing that the stock market has performed vastly better during Democratic Administrations.
The cartoon is only funny to Republicans. Tyler must be a Republican to have posted it. I think the cartoon sucks. Dubya and Paulson are bigger socialists that Obama could dream of being.
The $750 billion bailout was to bailout Frank, Reid, Dodd and Pelosi. Barny Frank and his cronies are responsible for the economic collapse. You democrats have been drinking the Obama kool aid. I would not want to live in a large city IF Obama gets in. You are in grave danger of another attack. There is no doubt in my mind that Obama is a plant and will provide the enemy with all U.S. Military secrets.
I’m voting for Bob Barr. A vote for McCain or Obama is a wasted vote.
Bill,
Unfortunately, you are the one throwing your vote away. Barr has a better chance of winning the lotto than the White House. Use your head.
SXMinvestor if you REALLY believe THAT….you’ve been drinking the far right kool aid via fox news.
Friggin,
Your VP candidate, foot-in-the-mouth Biden has already warned you. Wake-up boy.
There are valid arguments against Obama but I just don’t see a single one here…
“The $750 billion bailout was to bailout Frank, Reid, Dodd and Pelosi. Military secrets.”
Sounds like you might be drinking arsenic.
No offense. I still like you because you are a fellow investor.
I used to be a McCain supporter having lived in AZ for many years. It is unfortunate that McCain flip flopped on 75% of the things he once stood for or against to play to the Republican parties B.S. that Bush made so ever strong.
I’m definitely not saying that Obama is the answer but McCain surely isn’t either.
It’s too bad that Ron Paul wasn’t in there.
Tyler, you’re in the financial industry, aren’t you? You must understand taxes better than that cartoon does. Obama is proposing raising the top tax rate – only for money earned over $250,000, only 3%, from 36% to 39%. And he’s proposing lowering the tax rates for all income below that. You understand that a 3% difference in a system that already redistributes wealth (the basics of our income tax system is take some money from everyone and use it all for the common good of everyone) is a pretty small difference.
And you know that under President Reagan, from 1980 through 1986, that the top tax rate was over 50%, right? Under current Republican theory, Reagan was a pinko Commie who redistributed wealth! And you know that under McCain’s plan, any health benefits that your employer provides get taxed as income, for the first time since at least the 1950s, if not ever? So that the IRS will tax you as if you are earning a lot more money each year than shows up in your paycheck?
And for the claim that lots of people would pay nothing, but instead get a refund from the IRS, that just means that they’ll get a refund to reflect the lower rate that was enacted, after their taxes were withheld at the higher rate. Why didn’t we hear any whining from the general public when the IRS sent out rebate checks just a few months ago? That plan came from a Republican President, but not a peep from Republican supporters.
Here’s a much better cartoon for you:
http://graphics8.nytimes.com/i.....t.full.jpg
With ALL due respect SXMinvestor…Joe Biden saying Obama would be tested once in office has been twisted by the Republican spin machine once again to strike irrational FEAR in the hearts of voters.
His POINT is that ANY president is going to be tested. And I for one along with what is shaping up to be a VAST majority of Americans would prefer the level headed Obama in the White house making decisions than the hot headed McCain. I’m sorry. Just a fact.
Sad thing is that the Republican FEAR machine has led to statistics like “23 % of Texans believe Obama is a Muslim”.
You and I may be “Sirius Bruthas”…..but politically we couldn’t be more different. 🙂
I think Tyler baited us to discuss politics.
its all cool. no worries. After Nov 4th, we’ll all still be Americans…and we’ll all still be stuck in Sirius. Lol.
We’re all Americans. That I know. And I want a strong country with strong people. Whatever party or color.
So for me, I want the greedy bastards that tried to take us all under with their greedy loan programs to all go to jail.
And I want hard working tax paying Americans that pay these politicians salaries. To be represented. Not the special interests and lobbyists.
If the American people fall for that “spreading of your wealth” BS, they are very stupid. A hundred bucks to a poor person is far more dear to them than a million bucks is to a person with $20,000,000. The multi-millionaire may bemoan his/her fate at a dinner at his/her country club, but the poor person may not eat. Whatever happened to the “caring” society we were all talking about a few decades ago. Some of us remember that time, and still care about others.
I cannot give credence to a man who owns 8 homes and makes the false accusation of his opponent being a “socialist.” There are currently a lot of people sleeping in their cars all over America, and a lot of families who have to think whether they should buy a gallon or a half gallon of milk to give to their kids.
I do not dislike McCain because he is wealthy; I dislike people like him who have no compassion for the suffering of millions of Americans. Having said that, there are plenty of rich people who have compassion; too bad a lack of compassion is respected by so many Americans as acceptable.
Friggin
I am voting MEL for president if he can get this damn stock up to $ 2.50 and I break even.
If he can do that, certainly he can do can get the economy out of this shit and us out of war
Vote MEL for Presidnt, but do not vote for RS
Iambankrupt and I approve this message
Hey frigginregan,
Maybe obama isn’t a terrorist but his friend is and what about his preacher of over 20 years.
I guess stuff like that doesn’t matter to
friggin liberal democrats.
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Barack Hussein Obama Senates most friggin liberal senator
Joe Biden Senates 3rd most liberal friggin senator
Harry Reid Senate Majority Leader – a friggin liberal waste
Nancy Pelosi Speaker of the House – friggin pathetic
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
NOBAMA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ugh. Nice one J56D. Wow. Did you think that one up all by yourself? Or are you just regurgitating the propaganda puke that you’ve been spoon fed by the folks at fox news? Lol.
You sound as ignorant and brainwashed as some of the yokels at those McCain rallies screaming that Obama is an Arab.
It’s amazing how McCain in his desperate attempt to win the white house has become worse than Bush and Karl Rove when it comes to attack ads.
I lost any respect I had for McCain. He used to be a Maverick…NOT because he SAID so…but because of what he did. Now he is a pale shadow of that guy.
In 2000 Bush accused him of fathering an illegitimate black child and trashed him.
And McCain now uses the very SAME campaign advisors who did that to him.
Its sad really.
The Republicans can try all they want to link Obama with the radical views of reverend Wright or Ayers….but it won’t stick.
Obama is his own man.
The great thing about this thread is that it proves that Sirius XM clearly appeals to a large variety of people…Good for business!
Well, we could use some more women… How many people really subscribe for Oprah or Martha Stewart?
Friggin, here is my theory… Buy AFTER the RS is approved but BEFORE it is implemented. Because I believe it won’t ever need to be implemented. But the fear of it will drive the price down. By Q3-Q4 of 2009 Sirius should be above a buck without the RS. Assuming we aren’t diluted much more. Credit markets are unfreezing. Interoperable radios are coming. People will be buying cars by the middle of next year.
Even if the RS is approved Sirius would not have to be above a buck until Jan 2010. The expiration for actual implementation of the RS is December 2009.
You keep beating the anti-RS drum, but I think it is clouding your ability to see it as a potential opportunity. Believe me, I don’t want the RS. But if it gets a yes, I’m getting ready to take advantage of the opportunity.
