New Report Indicates Tate Still Undecided
Broadcasting & Cable is reporting that a stalemate is taking place which appears to be a lack of trust on the part of Martin in regards to what Tate will do.
A source is cited “close to the chairman’s side of the negotiations, commissioner Tate, FCC chairman Kevin Martin’s fellow Republican, had not yet signaled her willingness to sign off on the merger”
The article goes on to say that that Martin doesn’t want to vote on the enforcement issues until Tate votes for the merger, yet Tate won’t vote for the merger until Martin votes for the fines…
These are the people running our government? Unbelievably childish!

aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhh!!!!
the inmates are running the asylum.
You have got to be kidding me! In fighting between Republican Commishioners? These 2 idiots are waiting for each other to vote.
In the mean time everyone and every thing is in limbo. All this time and it has come down to this adolescent child like brat behavior.
They will get theirs. TIME WOUNDS ALL HEALS!!!
This must be a hoot for the Dem FCC Commishioners.
Some one chek to see if Mel Karmazin has had a heart attack or has commited suicide.
These F…ing idiots
Conditional approval order is being circulated among the Commissioners so I assume that Tate voted YES.

I have to say, I dont trust it. If what they say were the case they could get nothing done peroid. I know the 20 million is voluntary and all but. Think about it this way how would any business get done if everyone was afraid that after they signed the papers the other party would not. It just doesn’t work that way. in more simple terms has anyone bought or sold a house. There is a little amount of trust, when you are at the closing.
DOW JONES NEWSWIRES
The Federal Communications Commission’s five members have received a draft approval order for the merger of XM Satellite Radio Holdings Inc. (XMSR) and Sirius Satellite Radio Inc. (SIRI), Reuters reported Friday, citing a source at the commission. The order would allow the deal if the companies comply with a number of consumer protection measures.
old slanted news from a NAB source…come on here…there are tactical reasons for martin signing the enforcement consent order at the same time Tate signs the merger approval order…this makes perfect sense and is in the interests of XM and Siri…business is done this way…both sign at the same time and/or exchange the documents at the same time…guarantees to both that it gets done as agreed…both Tate and Martin are acting in the common good of all including the American people by signing together…only an unsophisticated person would think a mutual signing to be strange.

…Indeed, while the two regulators were playing a Friday afternoon game of chicken, a new draft of an order to approve the merger circulated among the five commissioners for review.
It wasn’t significantly different from a previous version, one FCC official said. It now includes several references to the accompanying enforcement order. IT WOULD REQUIRE THE AGENCY TO START AN INQUIRY INTO WHETHER SATELLITE RADIOS SHOULD BE REQUIRED TO COME INCLUDED WITH TECHNOLOGY THAT WOULD ALLOW THEM TO PICK-UP DIGITAL SIGNALS FROM LOCAL RADIO STATIONS.
