December Vehicle Sales And SDARS Relationships
Auto sales for December 2007 have been posted, and the results are not great. Eleven of the brands saw an increase in sales over last year, while twenty-five have seen a decline. Auto sales are important to the satellite radio sector because they represent a large driver for getting consumers to at least experience what satellite radio has to offer. Data from XM indicates that slightly over half of those who experience satellite radio in their car elect to continue the service. While Sirius does not offer take rate data, it appears to be somewhat in line with XM’s experience.
The data presented here does not represent satellite radio installations, but rather vehicle sales. The satellite radio partner of each brand is reflected in the data. It should be noted that not all brands are not equal in terms of satellite radio installation penetration. Some auto makers install at a much deeper percentage than others. Also important to note is that not all OEM deals are the same. Among the differences are the length of the initial subscription, the subsidy paid for the installation, monies received for the subscription, and the amount of revenue share paid to each manufacturer. Simply stated, some OEM deals are more profitable than others.
Overall there were nearly 16.2 million cars of major brands sold in the U.S. in 2007.
(1) Nissan has a factory install deal with XM and a port/dealer install deal with Sirius. The status of Nissan going into the 2008 model year appears to be only XM. 2007 model year cars are still available at dealers. I have assigned 25% of Nissan/Infiniti sales to Sirius and 75% to XM.
(2) Toyota has a factory install deal with XM and a port/dealer install deal with Sirius
(3) Subaru has a factory install program, by model, with both XM and Sirius
Position – Long Sirius, Long XM, No Position OEM’s
How long are you going to keep giving SIRI credit for Nissan? Now, there may be some 2007s around somewhere, but you really think the ’07 dealer installs are generating 1/3 as many subs as the XM factory installs crammed into a very large number of Nissans?
Give it up, man. You were wrong. About Nissan, about Toyota, I’ve been telling you for 3 or 4 years now, it is time to just admit it. You can do it. Just give it a try: “I was wrong. I made a mistake”. Come on, I know it is tough, but you can do it.
Admitting you’re wrong is a challenge to your manhood.
Stack, can you point me to your website so I can compare your numbers?
stackpointer…
1. Therer is no way to determine what the actual number is. Even your wording of “XM factory installs crammed ito a very large number of Nissans” is not very accurate. Nissan sells about 6% of the total car volume, and only recently began a factory roll out program of any significance. My local dealers have many more vehicles not equipped with SDARS at all than any with either Sirius or XM.
2. Wrong about Nissan and Toyota? I stated that Nissan had a dealer install program with Sirius. I stated that Toyota has a dealer and port install deal with Sirius. I would suggest that you look at the respective websites or call toyota and Nissan.

3. The chart does not reflect installs. It reflects vehicle sales and SDARS partners.
4. My manhood does not enter the equation

No, but that is no reason to use one that clearly overstates the situation for Sirius.
The fact is that Sirius is practically nonexistent as far as both Nissan and Toyota are concerned. All Infinitis now have XM as STANDARD EQUIPMENT with no Sirius option; there may be a few 07s somewhere, but there probably aren’t 100 Sirius receivers nationwide in those. Yet, you somehow feel justified in attributing 1/4 of all Infinitis to Sirius?
It is just more evidence that you are a Sirius pumper, just as you’ve been for the last five years.
When you say Sirius pumper do you me as apposed to an XM pumper? Or is he guilty of being a pumper of the whole satellite radio industry? If so, how can you fault someone for loving something and believing in it?
He gives nothing but the facts about the situation with Nissan. He even discloses that he is giving Sirius 25% as a guess. If you don’t like it…call it 1% if that helps. He never states 25% as a hard factual number.
Looks like these numbers should be posted in the forums next time or we should close the comments on this thread in Jan and post a link to the forums.
Glad you had the last word.
Let’s not have any diversity of views on THIS blog….
LOL. Weak, weak, weak. Just like your writer(s).
What do you mean last word? The comments are still open.
Of course they have diversity, that is why they have these comment fields and the forums. People are allowed to say anything they please.
The writing here is weak? Can you point us to your well written blog so we can all see what strong strong strong writing looks like?
