SATCOS Survey On Merger Has Interesting Results
The latest SATCOS survey on the Sirius and XM Merger has some interesting results that may surprise some people. The short survey seeks opinion on the merger, pricing, and access to audio entertainment. What I find interesting is the usage of HD Radio as compared to cassette tapes. You may find it interesting as well. Why not take a minute to participate in the 5 question survey?

I don’t think the survey is all that surprising, given its sponsored by the satellite folks. I am worried that the tiered pricing could lead to customer confusion. A single company could end up changing the structure with little advanced notice and attach plenty of contract restrictions. I work with the NAB and this merger is a bad deal for citizens and local broadcasters alike.
A clarification….
SATCOS has no sponsors.
I also find your tiered pricing comment a bit odd. Cable television, satellite television, disney world, car washes, cell phones, and gasoline all have tiered pricing, and the consumer seems to grasp the concept. Why do you sell the consumer so short?
Matt –
According to your bosses, the merger should be good for local broadcasters. The NAB says that prices would go up and choices would go down for satellite radio subscribers, so that should drive more people back to free radio, right?
Does the “one-way competition” theory somehow refute that logic?
