Sirius XM Cost Cutting Begins
A check of Sirius XM’s marketing partners no longer lists AMTC as a Sirius partner and AMTC’s website has also removed all of its Sirius links. A phone call to AMTC confirms that AMTC is no longer selling Sirius XM for business.
Recently, I had noticed that Sirius XM had added several other companies to their branding efforts including Dynamic Media, Info-Hold, and Turnkey Media Solutions. These three companies all offer both Sirius and XM business subscriptions, which differs from the Sirius only offering of AMTC. The XM music for business web page does not list any specific marketing partners.
The original numbers of the AMTC deal are buried in overall marketing costs on the company’s financials, so it is yet unknown as to how much this will save the company in terms of dollars. Although negotiations may be continuing between the two companies, it looks as though the line item cost reductions analysts have been expecting, have in fact begun.
Position: Long SIRI
I wanna see MASSIVE cuts. MASSIVE lay offs and MASSIVE consolidation. 🙂
Trim that fat baby.
Seriously tho. This is good. Combine further trimming with nice cross over promotions and news from Mel after Labor day…and we just might see a pop out of these 1.30s. Argh!
Mel has said that at a post Labor Day meeting that he would lay out the entire cost cutting plan.
I’m sure he’s not going to lay out EVERYTHING. But at this point even alittle would be ALOT.
Do not forget that Mel also said that he would issue guidance for the merged entity. Finally! While I believe that Mel sets the bar artifically low so that he can easily beat it and trumpet that at the conference call, the Street still looks forward to and wants the guidance.
I like Mel’s approach; let him sneak up on everyone and burn the shorts, the biggest one being Goldman. So for now, if it languishes, I do not really mind it.
Goodie… only 2.82 million dollars a day to cut and we’ll be break even after 10 years! Lovely idea investing in Satellite radio…. might as well cut your dick off for fun.
I would have been better off cutting my dick off 3 years ago and paid for a recontructed one and have alot for $ left over.
Where were you 3 years ago with your advise Plowboy.
Cut….. cut….cut…. sell….sell….sell.
Who’s to say this wasn’t a divorce that amtc wanted?
Maybe siri’s product didn’t sell and they chose to dump siri.
Romeo: Sirius was paying AMTC. Not the other way around.
If you had a company that paid you for promoting their product, and then got a commission off of your sales, would you want to dump them?
Investor: I’ll take that. The good news for you is, I lost a hell of a lot more than 95% of people here. Got lost in the lies I guess…. one tiny glimmer of hope now… while Parsons, Panero and Nate were busy screwing XM into the ground, at least Mel is in control of that last putz now. Why did the BOD keep Parsons I’m asking? … A token of a poor executive possibly?
Two ways for this to go now… very, very good, or very bad. Has nothing to do with financing that’s all another smoke and mirror distraction games. Has everything to do with hitting, flat ass, break even, which is sadly the last metric that anyone ever wants to talk about.
So far, I am under impressed with the execution and communication.
