Because of all the pixie dust and fairy tales, of course.
Dumbo could always fly, he just needed a magic feather. I guess the Algae Conference in SD is BEHL's magic feather???

If that's not the reason, then I have absolutely no f-ing clue.

I was thinking exactly along the same lines, but I didn't have Dumbo in there, but that sure helped the illustration.

Actually, it looks like it is starting back down at the close. I don't personally think those PR's are not enough to support that gain. I would guess that gain will disappear. That is just my opinion...that doesn't make it so.

    Alcoa reports surprise profit

(4:15 PM ET) SAN FRANCISCO (MarketWatch) - Alcoa Inc.reported a surprise third-quarter profit Wednesday afternoon, ending three straight quarters of losses. Net income for the aluminum giant was $77 million, 8 cents a share. In the year-ago period, Alcoa earned $268 million, or 33 cents a share. Sales fell 33% to $4.62 billion from last year's quarter. The results topped Wall Street's expectations. Analysts had forecast Alcoa to lose 10 cents a share on revenue of $4.5 billion. Ahead of the report, Alcoa shares closed up 2.2% at $14.20. The stock has gained 26% in value so far this year, better than the 11% gain for the Dow Jones Industrial Average.
AA is up at a post-march 9 high right now in AH trading @ $14.93.
Also reported good, and up is COST (costco) and looks like MON (monsanto) reported this morning bad, but slightly recovered in AH.

    Thank goodness.

So what do you do after you check those AH trading reports?
Look at Futures trading, that's what.

I see ES, NQ and ZD (dow) up in fact, with the exception of oil, futures are green straight across the board.

I noted the other day, that SIRI had 3 closes below its 50 SMA - usually, you want to see a hammer on the line for it to bounce off, not closes below. 3 closes below is usually a sell signal for a lot of people.

Well, it tumbled today like it should have, and the other part of the catalyst I bet, was not holding on to these risky stocks prior to the above earnings reports (we'll that could also have been the catalyst for the 3 closes below).

Since AA was good, I'm hoping that we see the bottom reversal formation set up tomorrow. Open higher than today's candle, and close higher than the open.

    ASFX conference call recap

Well that was boring. Here's the clif's notes.

    ASFX Conference call 07Oct09
    No questions allowed.
    Will be a short call.

    Address Rumors Portion:
Buyout from pharmaceutical company? Completely unfounded.
Mr Roth selling company for short turn gain? False. He has no power to do so.
Is company debt free? No. Financials for 2004-2007 on pinksheets. 2008 numbers to be released in very very near future.
O/S as low as 200mil? Untrue. Capital structure to be updated with 2008 numbers.
Speculation that Governator is directly involved or owns part of ASFX? Untrue. He owns no shares.
We want an orderly market at a fair price. We want to dispel pumping and bashing.

    Speculation portion:
One week ago IR opened doors for investors and analysts to contact them for better transparency.

    Outlook of company:
“I’ve never been more confident in our prospects than I am today.”

    Additional Comments:
Rare opportunity for orderly market on fact, not fiction. Please call IR once or twice a month and verify facts.

It has sure been a good stock for you ASFXers. I hope that you kick some butt with it. As usual....Scotty says "No" to ASFX, so I have to watch from the sidelines.

    A little follow-up from today:

I think QASP should shape up a little...if not, I would call it a great buying opportunity, buy some more or just sit on it. If I didn't buy all of that desert today, I would be buying QASP. If I can dump EVFL tomorrow at a two-sided commission loss, I will buy Qasp. I really like that CEO's style. Even his comments and language come across very intelligent and caring. At least that is what I glean from him.

I would have done the same thing. I think most people would have (hopefully). The real test will be tomorrow and see if that pillar of gain holds up.
