Official: uSirius iPhone Application Submitted for Review
Nicemac LLC has officially submitted uSirius, their Sirius XM streaming iPhone application for review by Apple today. All there is to do now is sit back and wait for this gem of an application, that has been long overdue in the eyes of Sirius XM fans and shareholders alike, to be approved by the powers that be at Apple.
Various reports around the net show the iPhone App Store review process has been taking anywhere from 2 to 4 weeks to approve and officially list new applications. The guys over at Nicemac seem confident with their product and the rigorous testing that has been done but, only time will tell if it makes the cut.
The one time price tag of $12.99 has been confirmed by Nicemac co-founder Todd “Goodtime” Bruss, who notes that all minor upgrades will be free of charge but, any major future upgrades might cost a couple of bucks.
Stayed tuned for continuing coverage as we will do our best to cover the momentous occasion of the official release for all of you iPhone obsessed Sirius XM fans.
this is great news. Lets hope it brings in some more internet revenue from siri.
How do we review this app. I’m a huge Sirius lover and I’ve been waitng along time fir a Sirius-fm app. Any expected date ? Or way to get it ?
Beta 2 is out!!
Animation is awesome.
Scrolling title bar.
Time played on each channel.
Mini channel preview of what is on that channel before switching!!
Mute button.
Stop/Start stream (not pause).
This app kicks butt.
Congrats to the StarPlayr developers. Great product
now does sirius get revenue from this in any way?
They wont get revenue from the app i dont believe but they might be able to get some subs if they play their cards right.
They need to release a package just for this app for a cheap internet only sub that will cost 3 to 5 dollars. This could bring in a ton of revenue for them. Just have to see if they drop the ball on this or if they get aggressive and do what it takes to survive.
i thought that the basic internet feed will cost $2.99 starting in March–is this app based on internet feed?
I believe 2.99 is if you already have a regular (non-internet) subscription. It’s currently free for subscribers. For non-subscribers internet only accounts are in the $12 range.
just saw it requires a sirius subscription so it could bring in more subs via apple non-sirius sub users who want sat radio
so sick of waiting for this… bring it on already
It’s future rests in Apple’s hands.
Sirius XM stands a very good chance to sell Internet only subs worldwide, not just in N.A.
Todd
Good point Todd.
Sirius Internet Radio (SIR) accounts are Internet only, premium quality accounts that cost $12.95/mo, and they do work anywhere in the world (speaking from experience).
I sure hope Sirius starts an ad campaign about it once the StarPlayr app is approved.
NiceMac has a golden goose.
Thank you all. Preview (0.9.9) is off the hook.
Todd
Thank you all. Preview (0.9.9) is off the hook.
Todd
Thank you!
What will the App cost?
Does this get all the sports events and Fox News and CNBC, or is it mostly music? If it is mostly music, I can’t see much a benefit to anyone since there are already so many free options for that same old 70’s, 80’s and 90’s junk. Content is king unless it isn’t offered.
im sure it will have everything you can already get online, cant get cnbc on xmonline do not know about sirius, but im sure at soem point cnbc will go online. no wait cnbc already charges for they’re product online might be a conflict.
Yeah, that’s touching on my point. I do not believe that the sportscasts, cnbc, Fox News, etc. are offered via internet streaming. For me, personally, this would be a big hole in content and a reason I would not see a benefit in subscribing to the iPhone streams. I hope I am wrong.
Fox News Talk is on XM 168 and is online.
CNN, the Most Trusted Name in News, is on both.
uSirius StarPlayr will sell for $12.99. Prices are subject to change at anytime.
Get ready to be millionaires…
My friends and I can’t wait for this app!
uSirius StarPlayr works with CA and US accounts for Sirius and/or XM.
Well done NiceMac. Hope you get rewarded well.
Maybe I don’t understand the Apps store submission process but why was there all this hype over Apple and Sirius partnering when the actual option pursued was just submitting an app to the store for private purchase? What benefit would have been created for Sirius if they created some higher level relationship with Apple?
I don’t have an iphone nor do I want one. what I DO want is a new Sirius receiver. Make a new receiver!!!!! The Stiletto3 or whatever. what boneheads are keeping their entire music collection on their phone anyways. stupid.
This thread has nothing to do with Sirius XM Receivers.
I’ve had a Sirius radio in my car for 4 years but have considered cancelling my subscription due to cheap equipment issues and the fact I don’t spend much time in the car anymore. I’m excited about the new app as I could listen on the go outside of my car, but if I can’t get CNBC/Bloomberg… etc then that may be my deal breaker.
That’s up for Sirius XM to decide. They provide the content. There may be licensing, contactual agreements and/or copyright issues broadcasting certain stations over the net. If that is a deal breaker, I could contact Sirius XM and CNBC/Bloomberg directly and voice your concern with them.
uSirius StarPlayr can only provide the same channels that are available on Sirius XM’s internet browser based web players.
They should make it so Starplayr will run in the background so we can text, use the calculator, etc without having to end the app.
This is an a current limitation of Apple’s SDK and iPhone OS. All third party apps can only run in the foreground. The iPhone is a 400 Mhz ARM processor with a limited amount of RAM. I am sure Apple will allow background processes in the future with multi-core processor phones.
Hey Joe that’s Apple’s decision about not being able to run 3rd party apps in the background.
just jailbreak your phone. You’ll be able to run apps in the backgroung and more.
If a user emails us that StarPlayr won’t run and admits their iPhone is jailbroken, we will turn them away.
You can jailbreak your phone, but NiceMac LLC nor Apple, will support you.
What’s the big deal?
I’ve had Sirius and dropped it. There are too many great free (without subscription) offerings out there now. Pandora, Slacker, AOL Radio. All on your iPhone or Touch!
Check out Weather Underground’s Radio App called Wunderadio. It searches local radio stations using your GPS. It allows you to add by Artist, genre etc. It even allows you to listen to police scanners and weather radio if that’s your thing. Amazing content from anywhere in the world. Free.
I don’t know how much longer SiriusXM can survive. It’s stock is about a dime per share. In this economy, it just doesn’t make sense. I miss Howard too…but he’ll be back on terrestrial radio before the end of the year.
How do you figure he’ll be back on testicle radio. He has a 5 year CONTRACT you stupid ass! He’s also repeatedly said he would rather die than EVER do that type of radio! Get over it, he’s never coming back
Will the new Sirius player be able to stream off 3g connections, or is it only going to work off wi-fi?
Wes, you tool. When Sirius/XM goes out of business, there will be no satellite radio. Think he’s just going to sit home all day? Grow up.
