I am just posting this so all of you have a heads up. I just heard on the news that if you got that $4500 for your clunker that it will be taxed as income. It isn't free money like a lot of people thought...including myself.

Just for the record , I think some of the media are just spinning it this way.
If you read the comments section of this article "http://boortz.com/nealz_nuze/2009/08/buy-a-clunker-now-hand-over-yo.html " , I think you will find that is not the case.In short , some are saying you pay sales tax twice on the money which isn't the case.The $4500 is considered the trade-in price which is then deducted from the price of the vehicle you are purchasing and that is what you will pay sales tax on.
As far as being considered as income , some say that some States that have an income tax may try to consider this as income for state taxas , however , the Fed Expressly provides that the credit is not income.
