does anyone have any good stories about their first time buying stocks?
how much you started with and how it turned out? and if you lost how did you get back into it.

started with about $500 and bought stocks at $50 blocks (yes commision was $9 but thats that) Some of them made me a couple hundred, some of them went bankrupt and some i still own (EL estee lauder).

Just been building up a bigger account over 5 years by depositing $200 here and there.

I'm certain I've lost more in commision than i have made, but its been way too entertaining and i would have spent all of this money on electronics or vacations anyway. Plus, you can't win the lottery without playing the lottery.

With the economy down i have averaged down all my stocks and hopefully a recovery is going to make my commisions back plus 20%....fingers crossed..

    i have a decent one.

i won 2 poker tournaments in 1 week for a total of 300k. i ended up buying some sirius stock with about 50k. the reason i bought sirius was --- i was a huge stern fan a long time ago and recommended sirius to my brother when stern announced he was going there. my brother made a shitload of money.

so one day i was checking out the market and seen sirius price and felt it was low. merger talks and hype fished me in. so i just blindly dumped money into. ended up averaging down to .88 and i am proud owner of 100k shares. boy was i dumb!!!!!! anyways , i am not worried and i am not selling for break even either. i have faith in them now and looking for Q3 and Q4 to start realizing some growth in the price. meh, who knows. im just hoping.

commissions aren't fun, do you think people have to execute the trade? or its just a computer that does it. i guess we're paying for customer support?

woo thats alot of money, how much did you have to pay to enter the tournament?
i'm sooo bad at poker its not even funny. one time i had ace high, all of the 5 cards (flop+river+turn i think) were on the table, and so i tryed to bluff and put in like 95% of my money, and then he called and i was like shit.. and then i didn't know what to do so i folded... and every1 was like .... why the hell would u do that, now u don't have enough chips left to do anything... and the next hand i was out. it wasn't for real money though

no theyre not fun, but in fairness to the market makers and brokers they have to make some money somehow on executing our trades.
