Companies like Subaru will not build hybrids and electric cars because a plan is not in place to dispose of the batteries that will need to be replaced in 10 years. A little forward thinking...how are we going to dispose of electric car and hybrid batteries? Anyone heard about this?

John, Obviously i completely disagree with your analysis. You say tax cuts solved all our problems. I say NOT in the least.
    Lets move on.

Well, once they force all the cheap coal burning plants out of business and replace them with expensive solar and natural gas ones!

No they will cost more then gasoline.

Remember how the natural gas bill shot up a couple of years ago.

What do you think will happen with all the new demand?

I say buy natural gas stocks, they are going to make a fortune!

So you think hybrids and plug in hybrids are not the future in the automobile country in this country? Quess again. The sooner we move to them the more Sirius radios will be installed. There is a reason the Prius is so popular.
We are all talking about transformation of the auto industry. Its a process. The more they are out there the more quickly prices will come down. Check out the new 2010 Prius and
    and the Honda insight.

Give that man a Quby doll, not in 10 years though try FIVE the GM volt will need to have the batteries replaced every 5 years at a cost of about 5,000 dollars. Now while other may have longer life spans (because of the metal they are made with) they will also cost more to replace.

    Bondholder part 2

DJ US Sen Levin:Major Focus Of GM Restructuring Will Be On Bondholders

    .

WASHINGTON (Dow Jones)--The primary focus of the restructuring of beleaguered auto maker General Motors Corp. (GM) will be on the company's bondholders, who so far have been unwilling to accept a haircut to help the company stave off bankruptcy, Sen. Carl Levin, D-Mich., said Monday.

Levin was speaking on a conference call with reporters shortly after President Barack Obama announced that the administration is giving GM 60 more days to come up with a plan to return the company to viability.

"A major problem in terms of the financial viability [of GM] is the unwillingness of the bondholders to step up," Levin said.

He said that holders of the company's debt would have to be willing to take a hit along with everyone else involved with the company.

"They're either going to take a hair cut or a bath," Levin said.

He said unions would have to agree to potentially more cuts to retirees' benefits, but Levin made it clear that from his perspective it was investors in GM, not employees, that would have to sacrifice the most.

Overall, he welcomed the president's plan, although he expressed sadness at the news that GM Chairman and Chief Executive Rick Wagoner was being forced to step down by the administration.

The senior senator from Michigan said he was eager to start working with the administration to enact a program allowing people to receive generous tax credits if they traded in older, polluting vehicles for newer, cleaner ones.

Obama said that he would work with Congress to explore whether this program would work.
