Dolly Parton married Carl Dean on May 30, 1966. They never had any children. Dolly co-wrote – and sang harmony on – Bill Phillips' 1966 country hit Put It Off Until Tomorrow, which wound up winning a BMI award for country song of the year. Carl attended the ceremony with Dolly but he was wearing a rented tux and was uncomfortable. After the ceremony, he told her, "Don't ever ask me to go to another one of these damn things because I ain't going." And Carl went to only one of Dolly's concerts. He was reclusive and was very seldom seen in public with her.
