Deranged, demented, delusional Donald not only believes he's above the law, he believes he can make his own laws. Spoiler alert: He can't.

Trump roasted for making up a law about classified documents
    HuffPost, Jul 17 2023, 7:16 AM EDT

Legal experts and critics lashed Donald Trump over the weekend after he fabricated a law he claimed gives Presidents the "absolute and unquestioned right" to take any documents when they leave office. The former President made the claim during a speech at the conservative Turning Point Action Conference in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Saturday.

While railing against last month’s federal Espionage Act indictment over his handling of classified documents taken from the White House to his Mar-a-Lago estate, Trump claimed: "Whatever documents a President decides to take with him, he has the absolute and unquestioned right to do so. This was a law that was passed and signed. And it couldn’t be more clear.” Legal experts did not agree. Laurence Tribe, a legal scholar and Harvard University professor emeritus, said "no such law exists."

Trump has made similar claims in the past. Last month, he argued that a President leaving office has the "absolute right to keep documents or he can give them back to NARA if he wants,” referring to the National Archives & Records Administration. His assertions have been repeatedly debunked by legal experts, who noted that the Presidential Records Act Trump has cited in his defense actually states the opposite. The 1978 law requires records created by Presidents and Vice Presidents to be turned over to NARA at the end of their administrations.

Judge sets trial date for Trump's classified documents case in Florida
The Associated Press, Jul 21 2023 09:54 AM EDT

U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon has scheduled a May 20, 2024 trial date for former President Donald Trump in a case charging him with illegally retaining hundreds of classified documents. The date is a compromise between a request from prosecutors to set the trial for this December and a bid by defense lawyers to put it off indefinitely until sometime after the 2024 Presidential election.

The trial before Cannon will take place in a federal courthouse in Fort Pierce, Florida. It arises from a 38-count indictment last month, filed by Justice Department special counsel Jack Smith, that accused Trump of willfully hoarding classified documents, including top secret records, at his Mar-a-Lago estate in Palm Beach and conspiring with his valet, Walt Nauta, to hide them from investigators who demanded them back.

Today on Truth Social, Trump wrote,""My attorneys had a productive meeting with the DOJ this morning, explaining in detail that I did nothing wrong, was advised by many lawyers and that an Indictment of me would only further destroy our country." Translation: "I have always been above the law and I intend to remain above the law."

Special counsel brings more charges against Trump in Mar-a-Lago classified documents case
    CNN, Jul 27 2023 7:26 PM EDT

Special counsel Jack Smith today brought additional charges against former President Donald Trump in the case alleging mishandling of classified documents from his time in the White House. Prosecutors allege in the updated indictment that two Trump employees – Walt Nauta and Carlos De Oliveira – attempted to delete security camera footage at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort after the Justice Department issued a subpoena for the footage. De Oliveira told the director of IT at the resort "that 'the boss' wanted the server deleted," according to the indictment. Trump, who is already facing 37 criminal charges, was charged with one additional count of willful retention of national defense information and two additional obstruction counts.
