Trump and his fellow Retrumplicans continue to spread the lie that Nancy Pelosi blocked the deployment of the District of Columbia National Guard on the day of the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot. Pelosi did no such thing; she has no authority over the National Guard. By the way, Trump gleefully watched the riot on television and did not issue an order to deploy the National Guard. Mike Pence gave the order.

He was dumb enough to believe Trump's Big Lie of a "rigged" and "stolen" election. He was dumb enough to obey Trump's command to "march to the Capitol" and "fight like hell." It is therefore not surprising that he was dumb enough to take incriminating video of himself participating in the riot.

On February 13, 2021, after voting to acquit Trump on the impeachment charge of inciting a deadly riot, Senate minority leader Mitch McConnell declared, "There is no question, none, that President Trump is practically and morally responsible for provoking the events of that day." Yes indeed – but McConnell still voted for acquittal. We now have another Republican who – rightully – blames Trump for the riot.

Republican Governor Asa Hutchinson says Trump is 'politically' and 'morally responsible' for January 6

Donald Trump was banned from Twitter in January 2021 for spewing lies about "voter fraud" and a "rigged election," lies which led to the deadly riot at the Capitol. In February 2022, Trump started his own social media platform, Truth Social. He uses it to spew the same lies about voter fraud and a rigged election. Truth Social claims to be "free from political discrimnation" – but Trump suspends the account of anyone who writes about him inciting the riot.

Trump knew his election fraud claims were a big lie, Trump's own aides said
The January 6 committee laid out proof that the former President was told by staff that he lost reelection – but he continued his attempts to remain in power anyway.

Former Trump campaign strategist Steve Bannon is every bit as deranged, demented and delusional as Trump himself. On his June 10 War Room podcast, Bannon repeated The Big Lie that the 2020 Presidential election was stolen: "Trump won the Presidency and he is the legitimate President of the United States." Uh, no. Bannon is now threatening the Attorney General of the United States.

Two more blindly loyal Trump supporters who believed The Big Lie of a stolen election and took part in a deadly riot will be going to prison. If Attorney General Merrick Garland does his job, the Big Liar who incited the riot will someday be in prison.

Man who carried Confederate flag in US Capitol found guilty of felony
    CNN, Jun 15 2021 3:46 PM ET

The man who was captured parading through the US Capitol with a large Confederate flag during the January 6, 2021 riot, was -- along with his son -- found guilty by a federal judge today of obstructing an official proceeding, a felony. Kevin Seefried and his son Hunter helped storm the building, climbing in through a broken window and coming close to the Senate chambers while inside. The two men were found guilty by Judge Trevor McFadden on four misdemeanor charges as well, including entering and remaining in a restricted building and disorderly conduct in a restricted area.

At today's public hearing of the January 6 select committee, two former White House aides testified that Donald Trump phoned Mike Pence on the morning of January 6, 2021 and said Pence would be a "wimp" and a "pussy" if he (Pence) did not overturn the election results. We also learned that a confidential informant from the Proud Boys told the FBI the Proud Boys "would have killed Mike Pence if given a chance." Meanwhile, another blindly loyal Trump supporter who believed The Big Lie is going to prison:

Sometimes when a chronic miscreant does something that appears "good," the reaction can be a kind of relief, gratitude and "respect." That feeling should always be resisted.

The reactions to Pence and Cheney are examples of misplaced appreciation. This article says it well.

If Donald Trump becomes President again – God forbid – he will seek to punish his enemies and reward his loyalists, including all his blindly loyal supporters who believed his Big Lie of a stolen election and obeyed his command to "march to the Capitol" and "fight like hell." They were willing to fight for him, to kill for him and to die for him.

Trump says he'll look 'very seriously' at pardoning January 6 defendants if reelected
They face charges including assault, theft, trespassing, property destruction and conspiracy.

Today on ABC's This Week, George Stephanopoulos asked Adam Kinzinger – one of two Republicans on the January 6 select committee – if he thinks Trump should be prosecuted. KInzinger said, "I certainly think the President is guilty of knowing what he did: seditious conspiracy, pressuring the DOJ, Vice President, et cetera. What we're presenting before the American people certainly would rise to a level of criminal involvement by a President and definitely failure of the oath."

In a new ABC News/Ipsos poll released today, 58% of Americans think Trump "bears a good or great amount of responsibility for the events of January 6 and should be charged with a crime."

Trump 'induced murderous rage' in insurrection mob, says former justice official
They were ready to "tear Pence limb from limb." It was "as dark as it gets," says former Deputy Assistant Attorney General Harry Litman.
