The Trump campaign is asking Trump supporters if Trump should run in 2024. We already know what the result of the poll will be. Why doesn't the Trump campaign conduct a poll that also includes Democrats and independents? And of course the campaign repeats Trump's lie that the election was "stolen" from him – a lie that the majority of Trump's blindly loyal supporters believe.

President Donald Trump has not conceded the Presidential election but it appears a fundraising appeal from his campaign may have finally done so."Should President Trump run in 2024?" a fundraising email from the campaign sent to supporters Tuesday evening asked. It appealed to its recipients with bombastic, urgent language: "Let's make something clear: the Radical Left STOLE this Election from President Trump." There is no evidence of widespread fraud in the 2020 election and the Electoral College officially affirmed President-elect Joe Biden's victory on Monday.

Since I made the above post, thousands of blindly loyal Trump supporters staged an insurrection – at Trump's urging – on January 6 at the Capitol while electoral votes were being counted. Rioters broke windows, vandalized offices and clashed with police officers. Five people died. The FBI has identified more than 300 of the rioters. More than 100 have been arrested and charged with federal crimes. Trump has been impeached for inciting an insurrection and he could wind up with federal charges against him. His approval rating is at an all-time low. He may not longer be the front-runner for the 2024 Republican nomination – but who can say? Meanwhile, there are many Trump-like Republicans – Ted Cruz, Mike Pompeo, Marco Rubio, Josh Hawley, Lindsey Graham and Kevin McCarthy among them – who may seek the nomination. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Biden will be 82 years old in 2024. Many believe he will be too old to serve a second term. Really? Here is something for them to consider: Queen Elizabeth II is 94, Raúl Castro is 89, Cameroon's President Paul Biya is 87, Lebanon's President Michel Aoun is 87 and Saudi Arabia's King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud is 85.

Even before Joe Biden became the country's 46th president on Wednesday, his orbit was sending out signals that he wouldn't be a one-term wonder. "He is planning to run again," Delaware Senator Chris Coons, one of Biden's closest allies and advisers, told Politico over the weekend. "He knows that we are at the middle of an absolute turning point, a pivot point in American history. And he's up for the challenge."

This was, without question, a concerted effort to get the word out that Biden has no plans to limit himself to a single term. It's a very smart strategy. The second that Biden – or one of his top surrogates – suggests that he may not run again, he immediately becomes a lame duck. The clock starts ticking on the end of his term and Republicans begin the process of stalling as much as possible, knowing Biden is going to be gone in less than four years. Coons' words are very clearly meant to send a signal to every Democrat and Republican in Washington that this guy isn't going anywhere – so it's time to get to work with him on the problems facing the country.

In 2016, Trump bragged that he could shoot somebody on Fifth Avenue and not lose any voters. In 2021, he apparently doesn't lose any voters even after inciting an insurrection that leaves five people dead. The Cult of Donald Trump is alive and well. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Donald Trump is no longer President. He no longer has the megaphone of Twitter. But make no mistake: This is still Trump's Republican Party. You see it in the actions of Republican state and local parties trying to punish those who went against Trump. You see this in a majority of Congressional Republicans voting to uphold an objection to Pennsylvania's electoral votes for President Joe Biden. And more than that, you see it in the polling, which indicates that Trump's in a historically strong primary position for an ex-President. Indeed, he's polling tremendously well among Republicans in the context for any future Presidential nominee.

Republican leaders go against Trump at their potential electoral peril. It's not that other Republicans can't beat Trump. We'll have to wait and see on that. Rather, it's that he could be a very big voice over the next four years. After the US Capitol insurrection on January 6, Trump's still cruising in a potential 2024 primary. A majority of Republicans (57%) said in an Ipsos KnowledgePanel poll that he should be the 2024 nominee.

Odds Shark USA has Kamala Harris favored to win the 2024 Presidential election. That, of course, is assuming Biden does not run for re-election. SportsBettingDime.com's average of all betting sites shows Biden favored to win re-election, with Trump ranking second and Pence ranking third. Retrumplicans continue to "kiss Trump's ring and cower in fear of his base," as CNN's Erica Hill puts it – but a few are finally starting to give up on Trump as the future of the party.

Mitch McConnell said Trump is responsible for inciting a riot but yet he voted for acquittal. Today he was asked if he would support Trump if Trump runs for president in 2024. He said, "Absolutely." He has no shame.

Today at the Conservative Political Action Conference in Orlando, Florida, Trump repeated his lie that the election was rigged and stolen and then he came up with a new lie: "Joe Biden had the most disastrous first month of any President in US history." In a poll of CPAC attendees, 55% want Trump to be the Republican Presidential nominee in 2024. Be afraid. Be very afraid.

Cassidy on Trump and the GOP: 'If we idolize one person, we will lose'

Louisiana GOPSenator Bill Cassidy said today he believes the Republican Party should not focus on former President Donald Trump to win back seats in 2022 and the Presidency in 2024. "If we idolize one person, we will lose," Cassidy told CNN's Dana Bash on State Of The Union. "And that's kind of clear from the last election." Cassidy, a moderate, was one of seven GOP senators who joined all Senate Democrats in voting to convict Trump in his second impeachment trial, but the 57 guilty votes fell well-short of the 67 needed to convict the former President, resulting in his acquittal on the charge of inciting the January 6 insurrection.

Cassidy said he believes the Republican Party should be focusing on issues that can win back voters, not Trump. Asked by Bash if he would support Trump if he were the GOP nominee in 2024, Cassidy responded that he doesn't think Trump will be the nominee, bringing up his age – he would be 78 in 2024 – and the priorities of voters.
