On August 8, 2022, FBI agents removed 20 boxes of documents from Mar-a-Lago. Many of the documents are top secret, classified or confidential and are supposed to be safeguarded in a secure government facility. (The FBI search took place two months after a Trump attorney lied and said all the government documents that were at Mar-a-Lago had been returned to the National Archives.) Trump insisted the documents belong to him. They do not. They belong to the National Archives. Trump insisted he "declassified" the documents. That was a lie. Trump insisted he is protected by "executive privilege." He isn't. He is no longer the President. Following today's indictment, the orange-skinned parrot is making his usual squawks: "Hoax! Witch hunt! Hoax! Witch hunt! Awwwkkkk!"
Trump indicted on 7 charges in classified documents probe
NBC News, Jun 8 2023 6:09 PM PDT
A federal grand jury has indicted Donald Trump on seven criminal counts in connection with his mishandling of more than 100 classified documents that were discovered last year at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida, making the twice-impeached former commander-in-chief the first former president to face federal criminal charges. The charges include willfully retaining national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, making false statements and an obstruction-of justice-conspiracy.
Two sources familiar with the matter confirmed the indictment, with one adding that Trump has received a summons to appear in U.S. district court on June 13. One source notes that seven charges doesn’t necessarily mean seven counts. There can be multiple counts associated with each charge.
In a post on his social media platform Truth Social, Trump said: "The corrupt Biden Administration has informed my attorneys that I have been Indicted, seemingly over the Boxes Hoax." He later posted a four-minute video where he said he's "an innocent man" and called the probe a "hoax."
