    Inspired by Annette's 1959 hit Tall Paul, Ray Hildebrand wrote Paul & Paula in 1962 and recorded the song with Jill Jackson. It was released by Le Cam Records of Fort Worth, Texas and credited to Jill & Ray. Mercury/Philips released the song nationally, changing the title to Hey Paula and the artists' names to Paul & Paula. Hey Paula went to number one in February 1963. Among the duo's other hits are Young Lovers, First Quarrel, First Day Back At School and Something Old, Something New.

    The Marvelettes formed in 1960 in Inkster, Michigan. Please Mr. Postman, their first single, went to number one in December 1961. Among their other hits: Playboy, Beechwood 4-5789, Don't Mess With Bill, Too Many Fish In The Sea, My Baby Must Be A Magician and The Hunter Gets Captured By The Game. The Marvelettes disbanded in 1969.
