2019 Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nominees

Here are the 2019 nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame -- that's the year, not the number. The Moody Blues were finally inducted in 2018. Pat Benatar, Jim Croce, Carole King, Mary Wells, Connie Francis, Chubby Checker, Johnny Burnette, Steppenwolf, Bad Company, Love, INXS, Jethro Tull, Duran Duran, Depeche Mode, Procol Harum, T. Rex, Three Dog Night, the B-52's, the Monkees, the Marvelettes, the Carpenters, the Spinners, the Commodores, the Guess Who, the Doobie Brothers, Jan & Dean, Peter Paul & Mary, Emerson Lake & Palmer and Tommy James & the Shondells are still not in -- and they all will have to wait at least another year. *Sigh*

The Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame has announced the nominees for induction on March 29, 2019. Fifteen nominees are eligible, including six that are on the ballot for the first time. Ballots will be sent to more than 1,000 artists, historians and other members of the music industry, who will vote on which acts will be inducted at Barclays Center in Brooklyn in March.

Def Leppard, Devo, John Prine, Roxy Music, Stevie Nicks and Todd Rundgren have each been nominated for the first time. Janet Jackson, Kraftwerk, LL Cool J, MC5, Radiohead, Rage Against The Machine, The Cure, Rufus & Chaka Khan and The Zombies are up for induction once again. To be eligible for nomination, an individual artist or band must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years prior to the year of induction. Fans can take part in the induction selection process by casting votes through December 9 via the link below. Inductees will be announced in December.

I apologize to anyone who tried to vote for the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame nominees by clicking the link in the above story from JamBase. Those dummies used the wrong link! I just replaced it with the correct link. And now, for your amazement and amusement, here is a list of the biggest artists who have been snubbed by the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame:

The late Dick Clark, longtime host of American Bandstand, said, "The three most important things that ever happened to the music industry are Elvis Presley, the Beatles and Chubby Checker."

Chubby Checker's remake of Hank Ballard's The Twist was a number-one hit in September 1960. A year later, it re-entered the chart and went to number one again in January 1962. No other recording in the rock'n'roll era has accomplished that feat. Pony Time also went to number one. Chubby Checker has had 22 top-40 hits and eight top-tens.......and he is not in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Why not???

The Carpenters are not rock and roll. A lot of people in the hall of fame are not rock and roll either. But I think most of the people you listed should be in.

Paul Anka, Cliff Richard, Lesley Gore, Ben E. King, Neil Sedaka, Peter Frampton, James Taylor, War, Boston, the Searchers, the Grass Roots and Paul Revere & the Raiders are also not in the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame. Have all the votes of the past several years been cast by people in their 30s and 40s who aren't old enough to have listened to any of these artists when their songs were current? How else can we explain why so many legendary artists are snubbed while rap groups such as N.W.A., Run-DMC, Public Enemy, the Beastie Boys and Grandmaster Flash & the Furious Five get voted in?

We commoners are allowed to vote for our choices among the 15 artists and groups who are nominated for induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame in 2019. The numbers for the top five vote-getters will be combined with the ballots of more than 1,000 music industry people. The top five right now are Def Leppard, Stevie Nicks, Todd Rundgren, the Zombies and the Cure. MC5 has the fewest votes.

Janet, Stevie, Radiohead, Def Leppard, Roxy Music, the Cure and the Zombies will be inducted March 29. An edited version of the ceremony will air on HBO and SiriusXM. Chubby Checker, Carole King, Steppenwolf, Jethro Tull, Three Dog Night, Bad Company, the Guess Who, the Doobie Brothers and Tommy James & the Shondells are among the many deserving artists who are still not in the Hall Of Fame -- but Roxy Music and the Cure have made it. Go figure!
