SiriusXM Releases New iOS App – Version 3.0
There is hope for all of you SiriusXM iOS app users as your favorite satellite radio provider has finally sunk some thought and resources into their online listening experience.
This new app boasts features including speedier tune times, synced settings across devices, enhanced search, personalized recommendations, and social integration.
Although it may not be touted as a bullet point feature, gone are the days of using your pinky finger on those tiny little touch targets as the new app features large clickable areas that leave room for the fattest of fingers. Finally no more miss-clicks and accidental deletions!
Sleek new channel pages, complete with album art and biography’s, feature the ability to share what you’re listening to via iMessage, Twitter, and Facebook.
The new and improved customization screen makes it much easier for users to stream more of what they want.
New application settings also allow you to choose both your live and download audio quality, for those users on a tight data budget.
SiriusXM finally has an app with looks, usability, and functionality worthy of a company of their caliber. The most important question now is – will it work? As of today OnDemand episodes of my favorite shows are two days behind but, it hasn’t crashed yet so, that’s a good start.

Amazing it took this long to add in social media features such as sharing. That type of stuff is free marketing by users and finally Siriusxm can take advantage. App has been working well for me the last few days. Definitely a cleaner look and more functional overall.
Siriusxm online player had sharing in its previous version, Facebook, Twitter, Google+. From my point of view this new player is inferior because you can’t see all the channels at once to see what’s playing elsewhere. Also the window is too large to fit in the browser all at once, so there’s a ridiculous amount of scrolling involved.
After trying the new app- I’d say it is light years ahead of the previous version. My one criticism would be that the app does not rotate on my iPhone 6 plus. Its only works in portrait mode. I’d like to see it rotate fir use in landscape mode.
I am using the new SiriusXM player on Chrome and am finding it impossible to efficiently use. The screens don’t auto size so if you shrink the window you lose content. The favorites list is so large you can only see a few at a time and it does not support mouse scroll. This may be great for mobile users but not for a PC user. Bring back at least the option of the old player.
App literally does not work. All I get is a blank screen. This is an update?
This is the worst update ever. They call this all new look and feel and you are going to need to feel around everywhere for everything. Functional? Not at all. Gone is downloads, which were essential since most of my commute is through areas with no cell coverage. Sirius/XM, this is pure junk. Had I known, I would not have allowed the update.

SiriusXM is working on an update to fix the freezing and crashing problems with the new app btw.
The new player is not an improvement. Someone sitting in a corner cubicle out of touch with most user must have unilaterally decided to make these changes. It is use is not intuitive. The writer of this review is obviously a shill for SiriusXM.

I downloaded the new android version and it looks awesome, however the freezing and crashing was horrible. I would be lukcy to get through one song. Thankfully, through google, I was able to download the old version. It may not be as pretty, but it works.

Why did they get rid of On Demand? I see I can pick that days show but how do I listen to a show I missed last week? You used to be able to pick from a bunch of Howard’s shows for a couple of weeks. Not liking this update.
OnDemand is there. There are a couple of ways to get there. 1. You can search. 2. On the Howard Stern channel page if you scroll down you’ll see the list of shows. 3. The easiest way — favorite Howard show and then you’ll see the list of his shows in your favorites.
Thanks Charles, I found it. The app itself is so much less intuitive and less user friendly in my opinion; not saying the last version was the greatest but at least the layout and the usability was simple. Plus, some on demand episodes are not actually what they are listed as – clicking on this past Weds. show with Imagine Dragons brings up an interview segment from last year with Rosanne.
Also there is such a persistent problem with the show dropping out and the “Trying to Recover Audio” message that it makes it such a hassle to listen to. Or the show stops and then starts at a completely different point than where I was listening to. Super frustrating and trying to contact SiriusXM to complain or let them know is an exercise in futility.
My carrier is att and I am having major connectivity issues using an iPhone version 8.2 – every 10 to 25 minutes I get a message saying my connection is too slow to stream (which it is not) and can’t retrieve data – the older version’s navigation sucked big time but I’d take it any day just so I could listen!! Anyone else having these issues?
I am listening to downloaded shows and yet I’m seeing the same error. It makes no sense. If I’m listening to a downloaded show, what should my connectivity have to do with anything?
You know why? Because Sirius doesn’t care how their software operates and doesn’t care AT ALL about their customers’ satisfaction. That much is clear if you’ve every dealt with their customer service for ANYTHING!
New SiriusXM player within Google Chrome is not working well at all. Window keeps popping up that says Click ok to start listening. click it and pops up over and over again. Favorites come and go. Havent heard any audio out of it at all. Then a pop up that says experiencing technical difficulties. Then favorites go away again. Internet download speed is 20Mbps. Everything else on my pc using chrome works great.
So pathetic they would release an app that was so fragile and bugged.. worked great for about half a day. wasted a ton of time with tech support to find that the new version often requires a password reset to work. unbelievable? what a joke. its amazing they have had forever either a shitty app like the original version and now issues with the new release. they should clean house and fire whomever they have managing and developing their App. period.
It’s so pathetic. I guess WE are the beta testers. I can’t believe I’m longing for the days of the OLD app and web player, and those were LOUSY!! Why do we keep dealing with this company? For me, it’s only because of Howard, Covino and Rich, and Eddie Trunk. When they go, I go.
Wow! What a debacle for anyone who cares about downloading shows On Demand. It now “takes an eternity”…which is only where the problem starts. When you try to replay the show you downloaded not only does it freeze often, but when you reload it…it rarely goes back to where you were…and if you try to then hit the “back” button it goes back to the very beginning(?). And often if you are playing a Dowload an error will pop up that says you have bad connectivity(?). How can you have bad connectivity when you are playing a “download.” The WHOLE IDEA OF A DOWNLOAD IS TO PLAY SOMETHING OFF OF YOIR PHONE SO YOU DONT NEED TO USE DATA!!! Howard puts down PodCasts…but this is really basic, well used technology. (Did Sirius try to reinvent the wheel here?). Clearly the people who created this App didn’t even try this feature out. What a mess…. I am now trying to Dowload a recent show using a good WiFi and it has taken over an hour(?). It used to take 5 minutes… Does anyone at Sirius care? Is anyone out there listening? (How can I complain to them directly?) If it wasn’t for my Love of the Stern show, I would drop Sirius in a nanosecond. If he doesn’t renew …. Bye-Bye. They don’t seem to care (obviously).

Is anyone else having a problem on the iPhone 6 with the timer so that the audio stops? I like to listen as I fall asleep and it no longer works for me.
New iPhone app sucks. No way to sugar coat it.
1) Fonts are smaller and less contrasty, making it harder to read (especially not a good thing while driving!).
2) I can’t go directly channels anymore. I have to select music, rock, then scroll. Why make me work harder for the same thing?
3) Where did the damn volume slider go? I can get it to appear for a very short time if I hit one of the mechanical volume buttons, but that can’t happen as easily as a quick finger swipe.
Although I have a holder for car use I can’t make it work with one hand anymore! And the slider is now much coarser so it’s either too loud or too soft, either in the car or with a portable Bluetooth speaker.
Is there any way to go back? This is poor enough I may just discontinue my online subscription, since I almost never use it anymore in the car due the dangerous ergonomics of the new interface. Time to get out my old iPod and be done with this hassle.
The new app sucks. At my desk at work the old one could play without cutting out for hours. Since I had the new one force downloaded on my phone, getting and maintaining the signal is a challenge. It will be playing fine with 4G and the little arrows showing it synced, yet I will suddenly get the little spinning icon just endlessly saying trying to reacquire the signal. Then I finally have to restart the phone before it will work again. I have a Galaxy S5 btw, so it is more than capable to run it.
Like Peter above on March 24th, my carrier is also AT&T and ever since (and only since) the new App, I am having major connectivity issues using with my iPhone 6+ V 8.2 – Every 2 to 10-15 minutes, whatever I’m (trying to) listen to stops and I get the dreaded message saying my connection is too slow to stream (which it is not — I have the fastest my ISP offers) and can’t retrieve data l. While the prior App version’s navigation was basic, at least I NEVER had a connectivity issue — I mean, did Sirius’ developer/coder test the new App before unleashing this bug-riddled mess onto its unsuspecting paying customers?!
Come on Sirius, you can’t be “serious?!” Please get your act together and get your App fixed ASAP. In the meantime, how about access toy our prior App version and a credit to my account?!
This April 2 update to the mobile app has been a total failure. The device is unstable and crashes the moment it makes a signal connection. SXM seem completely oblivious despite numerous complaints from both iPhone and Android users. It begs the question, how can a communications firm so dependent upon technology release an update to its mobile app without adequate testing.
Interface requires reading glasses for people over 40. Forget about driving and making a quick adjustment like skipping forward or back without stopping the car. Phil nailed it. I wish my favorite show would go to podcasting. I hate giving this out of touch company my money for their lack-luster service and applications. Did you do any user testing with this app?
Well said. Sirius should be ashamed of themselves as a company. I wish I could send an email to their CEO but they would probably never get it. This company just can’t seem to do anything right when it comes to streaming their audio.
The Sirius online player is a piece of crap. Thank God they still offer the classic player which though not great, is infinitely better than the piece of junk programming they gave us with the new web player. Total junk.
Please comfirm for me that classic is still available. It is better than what they have now for sure! Also, the new app doesnt work on ipad 1. Cant afford to get new ipad. Howard, leave sirius, please!! Where you go, I will follow.
This is the first app I have paid $ to use and it does not work consistently. Some days I cant get it to run at all. Are there any settings I should change? I have an iphone 4.

Your new app sucks!! It’s not my internet connection; it’s not my friend’s internet connection; it’s not my office’s internet connection–I try to use it everywhere. it’s your app that’s buggy, despite the error message saying that it’s “my internet connection”. Go back to the old app! I’m days away from canceling because of the bugs. It’s not worth my frustration. I love your service when it works, but since this app update, it hasn’t worked consistently at all on my iPhone 6, which is the only device on which I listen.
And tonight, it just logged me out. I went to put in my userid and password again, and it didn’t work. I restarted the app. I restarted my phone. Nothing. So I tried to reset my password, and the app didn’t recognize my email. Get it together guys!
The download feature is a disaster. I plan to call and will ask to have my subscription refunded if i cant have my old app back
Like a lot of people have already said the new app is a disaster. It works sometimes and not at all at other times. I have tested in all cases of failure to make sure it isn’t my phone or my WiFi connection. It lost all of my ‘favorites’. The worst thing is the old app forced me to update. I was no fan of the previous app but right now it sure looks good to me.
the new app is terrible. Gone are the days of adjusting the volume via the slider bar. Support was of no help in identifying the problem and a solution other than to do so in settings. Are there fixes in place to correct this? What a terribly misplanned rollout.
I have a first gen iPad and the new upgrade will not work on it. does anyone have a workaround for that?

On the iPhone 6 it plays for about 3 to 6 minutes. then says Strem Paused you’re logged on somewhere else. WTF!! I’m not logged on anywhere else and I don’t share my logon details

Really disappointed w New app. Doesn’t allow you to select a channel while continuing to view other channels. Forces you to go through The whole stupid menu again: by pressing channels…music….rock…etc etc. The old app allowed you to remain in that particular group of channels without kicking you back to the beggining. Horrible if you are on a treadmill or riding you bike. Sucks.
i cant get this app on my MP3 player now i have to get a more advanced and expensive device you are morons !!! please terminate the idiot exec in charge with no notice or severance pay ..
Amen! I cant get it on my ipad 1 either! I feel so undervalued as a customer and believe I am paying too much. Grrrrr.
Constantly getting “Trying to recover audio”. This is a daily problem. It even happens when connected ti Wifi. I really don’t know what I’m paying for if literally 1/2 the time I cant listen to programming. Definitely dropping subscription whenever Howard Stern retires.

Same here. I tweeted SiriusXM help and went back and forth with them expressing how bad the app was and how if it wasn’t for Howard I would cancel. They kept telling me they know there are issues and they are working on them but for it to take 2 months to fix is an absolute joke. It’s frustrating to listen to the show and have it drop out all the time and then have to close it and it either won’t start or it dumps me at another spot in the show and then I have to use the god awful slider to try and get back to where I was. The minute Howard announces he’s leaving Sirius I am gone; because of this app fiasco I will not stay like I was going to even after Howard left.
When is the update coming? This is now officially ridiculous. It crashes before it even has a chance to load, and yes, I’ve restarted my phone already.
Crazy, you people need to fix this already. Some people only have mobile listening, and I should really be asking for money back.
When is Sirius going to fix the Mobile App? The iPhone App starts to load and crashes. This has been going on to long now. I will be calling to get money back on the subscription. Sirius should let there customers know that there is a problem and that they are working on it. The old version was working fine.
I had a knee replaced April 20th so I’ve had lots of time off work where I really needed to listen to XM radio. I swear, I’ve spent more time on the phone with Sirius reps that all tell me different things. One syas they know there’s a problem, another tells me there’s nothing wrong with their app. I’ve been told to uninstall, reinstall, clear data, shutdown, restart, only to still have recovering audio messages, shutdowns, no start ups, stopping, restarting at different spots of songs. I’ve afraid to even turn the audio up and get into a tune because it will just abruptly stop playing. And I got an email saying it’s time for my subscripton renewal. Wow, really?
The new updated app is not user friendly. I listen to my app when driving now listening has become a safety issue because the app will not play the real time program on channel 127. Most times Thom Hartman program will not play if I even see the option to choose it.
Please explain to me–what happened to Settings on the iPhone app? After a forced download, I tried to find Settings and no such animal; therefore no way to set the option to prevent screen saver from coming on. This on iPhone 4s. And BTW, when are the channel numbers coming back?? Never figured out why they were removed, totally asinine, now instead of just tapping in a number, I must scroll back and forth looking for the channel I want.
