SiriusXM App Crashing Woes Cause Ratings Slide
For some SiriusXM subscribers it’s been a very long 30 days since the company launched their much anticipated MySXM app. While the majority of people tend to agree the new App is full of great new custom features, the few haven’t been able to fully enjoy them.
The seemingly unlucky minority, who I happen to be one of, have seen a barrage of random and often maddening crashes. It doesn’t matter when you’re listening, or what you’re listening to. It might happen once every minute or once every hour but, eventually it will get you – and when it does, it often causes you to lose your place in your favorite show.
Subscribers are rightly upset and they’ve taken to iTunes App store to let their voice be heard. At the time this article was written, 1 star votes have outnumbered 5 star votes by a margin of 3 to 1 – not a good sign freshly released app. A quick sorting of the reviews to “most recent” shows an even more disturbing trend with 17 out of the first 20 votes rated at 1 frustrated star.
The running theme of these 1 star ratings is clear;
- “Random app crashing happens multiple times a day on iPhone 5. I lose my place all of the time.”
- “It won’t let me hear the on demand shows anymore, it shuts off constantly and often loses its position, needs lots of improvement.”
- “This app crashes more than it works. 2hrs into a 4hr show and it crashes and you have to start it all over again, every day.”
It goes on and on, page after page like this.
What’s even more frustrating is that the company doesn’t seem to have any clue what is causing the issue and with these random crashes leaving no trail behind in the iOS crash log, it seems destined to remain a mystery.
Customer service reps have confirmed that the higher levels of management are aware of the problem and assured subscribers that they will be notified when it has been sorted out. In the meantime, some angry subscribers have been pacified with $50 apology credits made to their accounts.
If you happen to be one of the unlucky, please share your story in the comments below. Maybe we can put our heads together, figure out the common denominator, and finally kill this bug from hell before I lose what little hair I have left.
Has anyone else noticed that the iPad app starts up on its own? It’s happened several times on my Mini. Once while it was sitting in my office while I was away from desk to the chagrin of my coworkers.
This happens to me on my iPhone 5. I have to remember to close the app in the background or else it will wake me up at night or go off at work. This is such a horrible app.
The app works awesome. iPhone 5
Sounds like it’s time to switch to Android. That app has worked flawlessly for me on both my phone and my Nexus 7. 🙂
Works fine on my iPad mini. 😀
If there’s a problem, I haven’t seen it. Regardless, its not affecting the share price any. New 52week high baby! Heh heh heh
Worthless story… have the app and there have been no issues on my end. Android users no complaints. Stick to auto sales.
Worthless to you because the app is working for you — unfortunately for me, and many others, it does not.
Side note: I don’t write about auto sales 🙂
This is not looking good for SIRI. MySxm plagued with problems and paying out cash to disgruntled customers, Liberty causing Sirius to take on $1 billion more in debt when one of the main concerns of this stock is excessive debt, And churn starting to trend in the wrong direction for the first time. All we need now is a couple downgrades and were going to have a huge problem.
siri can handle the debt for buybacks, leverage 3.5!!! stop bashing, company is doing awesome!!!!
No one is bashing the company’s fundamentals. I’m just reporting that the app is broken and subscribers are upset.
I agree with CL. No one is bashing they are just reporting factual information. You cannot look at the stock through rose colored glasses at all times. The broken new product launch should be of concern to everyone. it doesn’t mean the company is fundamentally defective…you need to know the good the bad and the ugly to make wise investment decisions.
I was referring to “doingmybest” comment.
works fine for me
This app is garbage. I use the iphone 5 and have kept it updated with every update thats come down the pipe for it. App crashes almost ever 45 mins on the dot. I pay a premium to listen online, and I have not been able to listen consistently now for the last two and a half weeks!!
did u try turning it on? this app works flawless on all my apple devices. so either you are just not smart and cant figure it out or you are bashing away.
SiriusXM is aware of the issue — are they lying about the problem?
Not your article I was attacking it was abbevilles bs response
I know who you were attacking — why is his response bs? What he is describing is exactly what happens to me and what SiriusXM is aware of. People are pissed — as am I.
Updated my android tablet this morning and the app hasn’t worked again. I emailed Sirius support and all they did was send back a list of supported devices, mine being in the “other” category – Pantech Element. Previous versions have worked like a champ.
this is so unnerving but sirius’s josh ([email protected]) has been trying to help me. but boy oh boy has this been a challenge for all concerned. i have uninstalled and reinstalled flash to no avail. i use windows xp and the crashing happens with ie and chrome. my IT dept suggests i change to windows 7. i really don’t want to, i like XP. anyone out there use windows 7 with no sirius problems? if so, i’ll change to W7. thanks!
1. I use the web player with Windows 7 and it works great in all browsers.
2. Windows 7 is night and day better than Windows XP.
3. Do not skip 7 and upgrade to Windows 8 if you like the XP style interface.
I can’t believe what idiots these guys are.
I could get tons of people to subscribe to SiriusXM in lieu of Pandora if they’d let SOMEONE ELSE provide access. I had a fine Mac application, eg, that did that until Sirius broke it. And I HATE using Flash, which is now the only way to get it. Now they’ve deprecated an old iPhone I used to stream via iOS, so now it’s back to Pandora.
What’s the point? the app is FREE so it’s the sub they’re selling. If tight control over the hardware/app was important due to quality issues I could see it, but what they make is pretty much crap, while their content is great. What a shame.
I am fed up! No iPhone Sirius XM now for over a week – but they did run through the charge for the renewal quickly!! What is with this?
Can’t get Sirius XM to load on iPhone 5S. Just sits there saying “downloading … in progress” for over an hour when I gave up and closed the app. Deleted the app and reloaded it from the app store, tried again with same result.
Bought iPhone 5s yesterday. SiriusXM won’t download channel content. Get lost in a loop. Really poor quality. Sirius was much better in older days. They tried to get too fancy and too complicated and ruined their simple plan that well
Another example of over reaching. I will cancel my subscriptions if they don’t fix it
IF IT AINT BROKE, DONT FIX IT
App is constantly freezing on my iPhone 6. Downloads freeze, lose my place. App won’t shut down, can’t log off, starts by itself. I have to power off my phone to change stations. App will randomly change channels when my phone is sitting still.
Had the same problems in my iPhone 5.
Ipad update was a Sirius mistake!!!! Starts and then drops out. Reset it and all other options offered on internet. If you haven’t done it – – -DONT! Reminiscent of the great government health care website. Maybe if enough of us get loud enough SOMEONE at both Sirius and Apple will wake up and get it fixed.
Ever since I downloaded the new update a few days ago it been saying “Service Unavilable, pleAse try again later” I’ve tried deleting and re downloading nothing has worked. Tired of paying money for something that I can’t even use.
I use this app everyday all day and I can confirm it’s a total piece of sh*t. It crashes everyday, I lose place in the middle of a show I really like when listening on delay and sometimes it changes stations or by itself and I lose place again. The worst app I’ve ever used. Sirius has good content but it takes a monumental effort, money and time to find a way to listen without problems.
This upgraded app is brutal. My rating 0 out of 10. It tells me that I am logged on to another device and when I click on continue listening it works for about a minute and the same message pops us. I am able to listen for sometime 15 minutes or 30 seconds. The app will then lock out saying loading, loading, loading etc etc. An hour later I may be able to listen for another 5 minutes when the loop starts again. Give me the old Apple App back please.
Super Frustrated.
i would love to be able to rate the new app however, I have only managed to open it twice. It opens, it says “loading”, it crashes. Once in a while it will open but none of my favorites or downloads are there!? Why would any company release this? I used to listen to Sirius all day but now only when I’m driving. Good job guys. I give this app a score of Zero point Zero.
I’m having problems with the Sirius APP crashing on my Iphone 4S – Had to start the app over ten times before it would actually start playing. Also, Since the upgrade from the original I can’t play some game Apps while listening to Sirius App because it shuts off as soon as I try to start a Game app. And, on my Gen3 Ipod Touch the app no longer works at all – Try to start the app and it wants to upgrade to the latest one (NO choice but to Allow) then ITunes tells you that because the IOS is not above 6.01 it can’t load the new Sirius App do I want to download a previous version – OK – It has turned into an endless cycle. I’ve invested a great deal of money in getting the 64GB versions of both the Ipod and Iphone Sirius should make sure that their new App/Software remains backwards compatible with devices that are running it. After all, We are paying a premium service to use this App/Software.
The new SiriusXM app is awful. Mine crashes after a few seconds. I was told to uninstall/reinstall and now I get “your account is unable to proceed”. The old app was perfect.
Why would you update to such a Low-quality app. I have not been able to listen to the only show that I really brought this service for which is the joe madison show. I will cancel my subscription if this is not corrected.
It’s not only the phone apps that are crashing. I have a new Pure Evoke F4 portable internet radio and the Sirius/XM streams crash after about 10-20 minutes of play. You can resurrect it, but then it crashes again. My receiver has already been replaced once, so the problem apparently isn’t at Pure’s end. There has to be a tie-in between the phone apps and whatever firmware Sirius/XM is using on the Evoke F4.
The app keeps crashing on me over and over again. Customer service impossible to get ahold of. I love Howard Stern. He is really the only reason I am still a subscriber. Sports are a good value too, but the app needs to be fixed.
My SiriusXM app used to work fine, I could put my iPhone 6s in my pocket and listen to it at work. Now it is super sensitive and shuts off frequently when I put it in my pocket. On the desk it is ok, but this is frustrating, it used to work. From the other comments I’ve read, sounds like it’s not my phone but a problem with the app. Other apps work fine, including my cspan radio app.
My iPod touch 5th gen stops on downloaded content about every hour
I have a samsung S20 ultra. Use the Sirius xm app every day. Last three days the app opens and immediately closes. Rebooted phone several times. Uninstalled app and reinstalled several times. I read this has been an issue. Any fixes?
