Sirius XM on Your Mac No Browser Required
Rogue Amoeba, the guys with the strange name who have been making great software for the Mac OS X since 2002 have released a new application called Pulsar, which allows Mac fans to access the Sirius or XM Internet Radio feed without a browser.
For those who may be interested there is a free preview which plays for a full 20 minutes before it ads a little noise overlay to motivate users to purchase a license key for just $15. The application is still effectively in beta and we will be sure to keep you updated as soon as it hits version 1.0.
Stay tuned as I am sure this is just a taste of what is to come now that application developers around the net are realizing that satellite radio is not just some fad.

It is good to see OSS developers show an interest in SAT/RAD.
Mel and company need to embrace the (Open Source Software) movement.
I am one of the lucky ones who was introduced to Linux/Unix a few years back, and have never looked back since. It can be a pain to learn but, no pain no gain, plus the benefits of learning command line are well worth the efforts.
But right now Mel needs to focus on the present dept, and wait to work on R/D later.
RHT/Redhat would be perfect for the companies software needs, if they are not already using them.
It would be great to even see a GUI/less program to listen to SAT/RAD through lynx. All the faster, and no bloat!!

Dread…
What is a OSS and how does/would it effect SiriusXM?
What is Linux/Unix?
What is a command line?
What is RHT/Redhat?
What is GUI/less program?
As you can see from my questions I have no idea of what you are talking about or how it effects, or could effect SiriusXM in a positive way.Forgive my ignorance on these subjects.
Could you Please give a brief summary?
Thanks
Vaporgold
What is a OSS and how does/would it effect SiriusXM?
OSS means open source software which means anyone can view the source and make modifications to it to suit there needs
What is Linux/Unix?
Linux is a 3rd party operating system that’s free and used for many things (lower end netbooks, webservers, pc’s who don’t want Windows vista)
What is a command line?
Command line is basicly Command prompt where you can insted of using a mouse you type the commands
What is RHT/Redhat?
Version of Linux
What is GUI/less program?
Gui = Graphical user Interface – basically what windows brought to DOS a GUI
Thanks Demonotaku..
That was helpful

Sorry Vapor,
Looks like the post I put up earlier with links did not go through. If you want just pull up your favorite search engine and Wiki Linux.
Anyway, I see the same potential with siri/xm as I do with free software. Basically I see Microsoft selling us a product, and people having to except it whether they like it or not. But with free software, you can pick and choose what you want, just like SAT/RAD.
The funny thing I also see is, Microsoft bashing OSS, just like the NAB/bloggers bash SAT/RAD. The potential is huge for siri/xm just like free software. We know we have a great product in radio because everyone is out to short side us.
Now with rogue amoeba and the starplayr people writing code to spread SAT/RAD to phones and PC’s just shows me the huge potential here.
Vapor, I am pretty certain that SIRI is running linux on there servers, and it is definitely in the birds they have up in the sky.
Thanks Demonotaku, for answering the questions for Vapor.
Hey Vapor, OSS = Open Source Software- Its basically an alternative to windows/mac.
There are about 300 + different versions out there.

Linux/Unix= Is open source software.
command line= http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/C....._interface
Link above also covers GUI, or graphical user interface.
RHT/Redhat is a linux operating system.
I can almost guarantee that SIRI/XM uses Linux on there servers, and for the birds they have up in the sky.
I am not sure how much more they could benefit from using open source software. We are actually seeing some of the benefits from the guys/gals who designed the starplayr and rogue amoeba.
The great thing about OSS is, its free to modify, distribute under the GNU/general public license. Basically without free software we would not see these programs come out such as starplayr. And Bill Gates would have all of us enslaved to build his death star :). In fact Unix has been around a lot longer than windows.
To me its a fun hobby, and I like to tinker with my computer, especially during this time of year.
Hope that helps out Vapor!! And I won’t blame you if your eyes glaze over!! 🙂
YEAH NOW IT GOES THROUGH LOL!!!
If you want to use a nice product that isnt going to cost you 15 dollars then go to starplayr and use their products. They are the ones making an app for the iphone thats in private beta now.
I have it installed on my mac and it works great.
All nice for the consumer . . . too late for the equity holders.
