In 1987, Donald Trump registered to vote as a Republican. He changed his party affiliation to the Independence Party of New York in 1999, to Democratic in 2001, back to Republican in 2009, to "no party affiliation" (independent) in 2011 and back to Republican in 2012. He was never asked to show proof of citizenship.
