    In 2008, American Airlines began charging passengers an extra fee for their luggage. Most airlines followed suit. (Southwest Airlines is an exception.) Last year, American Airlines made $1.4 billion from those fees – and it apparently is not enough. Shares of American closed today at 14.79, a gain of 0.09 (0.61%).
