    Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence searched by FBI

    On August 8, FBI agents searched Donald Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence in Palm Beach, Florida, as part of an investigation into whether Trump removed and/or destroyed classified White House records after he left office in January 2021. Trump called it a "raid." It was not. He said his home was "under siege." It was not. He said Biden knew the search was going to take place. Biden did not. And of course Trump once again started squawking, "Witch hunt! Witch hunt!"

    On August 11, Attorney General Merrick Garland noted, "Copies of both the search warrant and the FBI property receipt were provided on the day of the search to the former President’s counsel, who was on site during the search. The search warrant was authorized by a federal court upon the required finding of probable cause. The property receipt is a document that federal law requires law enforcement agents to leave with the property owner." Here is the text of Garland's speech:

    Within three hours of the search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, Newt Gingrich, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Steve Bannon, Trump lawyer Alina Habba, Fox News' Jesse Watters and many other Trump loyalists made baseless claims accusing the FBI of "planting evidence." Retrumplicans have sold their souls to Donald Trump and they protect him and defend him at all costs.

    The FBI’s search warrant for Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago residence shows the former President is under investigation for possibly violating the Espionage Act. The search warrant, which a federal judge unsealed Ftoay at the request of the Justice Department, also states Trump is being investigated for potentially removing or destroying records and obstructing an investigation. All of those crimes may be punished with fines or imprisonment.

    A list of documents the FBI gathered from Trump’s Florida home reported that some of the documents collected were marked “Various classified/TS/SCI documents” – an acronym for “top-secret” and “sensitive compartmented information” that indicates one of the highest levels of government classification. The Espionage Act was established in 1917 to prohibit anyone from obtaining defense information with the possible intent of using it against the U.S. or to further the interests of a foreign country. Twenty boxes were taken in total, including 11 marked with various degrees of classification.

    If Donald Trump is indicted for concealment, removal, alteration or destruction of classified documents – which, considering Trump seems to get away with everything, is a pretty big "if" – and if Trump is convicted – which is an even bigger "if" – he could be facing many years in prison. "Lock him up! Lock him up!"

    Deranged, demented, delusional Donald is calling the FBI agents "sleazy." If anyone would know about "sleazy," it's Trump! He also responded to an August 11 Washington Post story that agents were looking for "classified documents relating to nuclear weapons." He called it a "hoax." Typical Trump.

    Former President Donald Trump and his lawyers have baselessly peddled a conspiracy theory that the FBI may have "planted" evidence during its raid on Mar-a-Lago because "nobody" was allowed to watch. But Trump's lawyer Christina Bobb admitted on Thursday that Trump and his family watched the "whole thing" go down from New York through CCTV footage from the resort. Bobb told the right-wing outlet Real America's Voice that Trump and his family were able to view the entire raid through surveillance video. Bobb said she was busy speaking with investigators during the search but the Trump family saw "the whole thing."

    Greene is a far-right, pro-gun, anti-Semitic, conspiracy-theory-spreading white nationalist and – not surprisingly – a blindly loyal Trump supporter. She believes Trump won the 2020 Presidential election. (He didn't.) She believes the victory was stolen from him. (It wasn't.) Greene equated the Democratic party with Nazis and equated COVID mask mandates with the persecution of Jews during the Holocaust. On the day after Joe Biden was inaugurated as President, she filed articles of impeachment against him, alleging "abuse of power." And now.....she's at it again.

    On August 8, FBI agents removed 20 boxes of documents from Mar-a-Lago. Many of the documents are top secret, classified or confidential and are supposed to be safeguarded in a secure government facility, not in Donald Trump's private residence. Sources told The Washington Post that some of the documents concern nuclear weapons. But two months earlier, one of Trump's attorneys had lied for him and said all the classified documents had been returned to the government.

    House Intelligence chairman Adam Schiff and House Oversight & Reform Committee chairwoman Carolyn Maloney have called on the Director of National Intelligence to assess the damage to our national security posed by unsecured classified and top-secret documents held for several months by Donald Trump at Mar-a-Lago. Trump claims he had "declassified" the documents. A President can indeed declassify documents but there is a formal process to go through. Paperwork has to be filled out and the documents have to be marked "declassified" and include the date they were declassified. Has Trump provided any proof or evidence that he declassified the documents? Nope. All he did was say he declassified them. "I am the King! I have spoken!"

    A day after being sworn in as President in 2017, Donald Trump bragged that he had the largest Inauguration Day crowd of any President in history. He was lying. He also had a government photographer crop and edit photos so the crowd appeared larger than it really was. No more than 600,000 attended Trump's Inauguration, compared with 1,800,000 who attended Barck Obama's Inauguration. Trump is still obsessed with crowd size – and he's still lying.
