A Trump Organization spokeswoman did not address the charges against Trump. She knew she couldn't. Instead she took a page out of the Donald Trump playbook. She attacked the prosecutor, calling him a "never-Trumper" with "zero credibility."

Prosecutor who resigned over stalled Trump probe says ex-President could have been convicted
The Washington Post, Mar 23 2022 9:27 PM ET

A veteran prosecutor who resigned from a special appointment to the Manhattan District Attorney’s investigation into Donald Trump’s finances and business practices said the former President personally committed felonies and should be charged promptly. The comments were made in Mark Pomerantz’s February 23 resignation letter as he and Carey Dunne, another top investigator on the team probing Trump and the family-run Trump Organization, abruptly left the office after people familiar with the matter said District Attorney Alvin Bragg appeared uninterested in pursuing a case.

"The team that has been investigating Mr. Trump harbors no doubt about whether he committed crimes – he did,” Pomerantz’s letter said. Pomerantz added that Trump lied to banks and other relevant parties committing "numerous felony violations" through his practice of filing bogus Statements of Financial Condition. Pomerantz and his counterparts in the probe determined Trump broke New York law and that a criminal case against him was viable.

Donald Trump appeared on TV3's Ireland AM program in 2014 and declared, "If I decide to run for office, I'll produce my tax returns, absolutely." In 2015, and again in 2016, he told radio host Hugh Hewitt that he would release his taxes. In 2016 during a televised debate with Hillary Clinton, Trump promised to release his taxes "as soon as the audit as finished." Of course he was lying every time. He continues to fight the release of his taxes. What is he hiding?

"You can't do this to me, okay? I was impeached twice and Senate Republicans refused to convict me! They made it very clear that I am above the law, okay? I don't have to comply with any subpoenas issued by any left-wing never-Trumpers who are just out to get me!"

Legal experts and political experts like to say "no one is above the law." Well, Donald Trump is above the law – and he knows it. No matter what he does, no matter how illegal or how crooked or how corrupt or how dishonest it is, "Teflon Don" seems to get away with everything.

"Look, if there are any records and documents that I think could someday be used against me, I get rid of them, okay? And if you quote me, I will deny that I said this, okay?"

Don't worry, Donald. You can simply do what almost every lying, cheating, crooked, corrupt, dishonest con artist does: plead the Fifth Amendment and refuse to answer each and every question.
