If you're keeping score at home, there have now been 635 rioters charged with federal crimes. One hundred have pleaded guilty and 17 have been sentenced. Punishments range from probation to prison. Paul Hodgkins, the first rioter convicted of a felony, received a sentence of eight months in prison. Josiah Colt, who pleaded guilty to a felony charge of obstruction, is facing 51 to 63 months in prison but has not yet been sentenced.

Police officers pledge "to protect and to serve." Here is one who decided to protect and to serve one of the blindly loyal Trump supporters who took part in the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot.

Capitol Police officer indicted for obstruction after riot
The Associated Press, Oct 15 2021 10:08 AM

A U.S. Capitol Police officer has been indicted on obstruction of justice charges after prosecutors say he helped to hide evidence of a rioter's involvement in the January 6 insurrection. The officer, Michael A. Riley, is accused of tipping off someone who participated in the riot by telling him to remove posts from Facebook that had showed the person inside the Capitol during the attack..

Riley, who responded to a report of a pipe bomb on January 6 and has been a Capitol Police officer for 25 years, had sent the person a message telling him that he was an officer with the police force who “agrees with your political stance." The indictment spells out how Riley sent dozens of messages to the unidentified person, encouraging him to remove incriminating photos and videos and telling him how the FBI was investigating to identify rioters.

Deranged, demented, delusional Donald sees nothing illegal about inciting a deadly riot, nor does he see anything illegal about the riot itself – but he calls the House investigation an "illegal fishing expedition." He does not want Americans knowing the truth. Why?

"If" there is evidence against Trump? "If"? He spent months making baseless accusations of widespread voter fraud. He insisted he won the 2020 Presidential election "in a landslide" and said the election was "rigged" and his victory was "stolen." He commanded his blindly loyal supporters to march to the Capitol and fight like hell to "stop the steal." The ensuing riot left five dead and 138 police officers injured. Four officers later died by suicide. How much more evidence do we need?

At a January 6 rally in Washington DC, Eastman and Rudy Giuliani urged Trump supporters to march to the Capitol and "stop the steal." Eastman, who believes The Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election but lost the victory because of "widespread voter fraud," had written two memos explaining to Trump how Mike Pence could reject electoral votes for Joe Biden and overturn the election results, giving Trump a second term as President.

The FBI ignored dozens of tips warning of violence at the Capitol. One of the most striking and most specific, according to the Washington Post: "A tipster called the FBI on the afternoon of December 20: Trump supporters were discussing how to sneak guns into Washington to 'overrun' police and arrest members of Congress in January. The tipster offered specifics: Those planning violence believed they had 'orders from the President.'" Mitt Romney was named as a top target. Post reporter Aaron Davis told CNN that the FBI assessed the warning and two days later forwarded the information to the Capitol Police with the heading, "No need for further investigation." Very predictably, Donald Trump's response to the Post story was to denounce it as "fake news."
