Donald Trump spent many months spreading lies about widespread voter fraud and a "rigged" and "stolen" election and then ordered his blindly loyal supporters to "march to the Capitol and fight like hell." He promised he would be there with them – but of course he wasn't. He stayed in the White House and watched the deadly riot – which he incited – on television. When is Trump going to be subpoenaed?

January 6 committee issues first subpoenas for witness testimony to four Trump loyalists
    CNN, Sep 23 2021 7:54 PM ET

The select committee investigating the January 6 riot at the US Capitol issued its first round of subpoenas today, targeting close aides and allies of former President Donald Trump. The subpoenas come as the select committee seeks to investigate efforts the Trump White House took to potentially overturn the 2020 Presidential election and how the spread of misinformation fueled the anger and violence that led to the Capitol insurrection. The four subpoenas are going to former Trump White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, former deputy chief of staff Dan Scavino, former adviser Steve Bannon and Kash Patel, a former chief of staff to then-acting Secretary of Defense Christopher Miller. The former Trump staffers are being issued subpoenas for private depositions and records.

Keller won gold medals in swimming at the 2004 and 2008 Olympics. Maybe he thought Donald Trump would award him a gold medal for rioting in 2021.

The House select committee investigating the deadly, Trump-incited insurrection at the US Capitol has issued 11 additional subpoenas. If I were on that committee, the first question I would ask these blindly loyal Trump supporters would be "Why do you believe Trump's lies?" I bet none of them would be able to answer.

The FBI's website includes a list of "defendants charged in federal court in connection with crimes committed at the US Capitol." More than 620 blindly loyal Trump supporters have been charged with federal crimes relating to the deadly, Trump-incited riot – and arrests are continuing almost daily.

Demented, deranged, delusional Donald incited a deadly riot by pushing The Big Lie that he won the 2020 Presidential election but it was "rigged" and "stolen" from him – and then telling his blindly loyal supporters to march to the Capitol and "fight like hell." He doesn't call it a riot, though, No, it was "a day of protesting the fake election results." Welcome to Trumpworld.

Can a former President invoke "executive privilege" and order witnesses to withhold information subpoenaed by Congress? Donald Trump – who lies constantly and is afraid of the truth – seems to think he has that power. He wants Dan Scavino, Mark Meadows, Steve Bannon and Kash Patel to refuse to comply with subpoenas. They are not obligated to obey Trump's directive. We shall see what happens.

Not surprisingly, Steve Bannon – who headed Trump's 2016 Presidential campaign, served as White House strategist for seven months and continues to spread conspiracy theories, and whose Twitter account was permanently suspended after he said Dr. Anthony Fauci and FBI director Christopher Wray should be beheaded – is obeying Trump's order to refuse to cooperate with the House committee investigating the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot. Bannon is a blindly loyal member of The Cult Of Donald Trump and will protect and defend Trump at all costs.

White House counsel Dana Remus says Donald Trump should not be allowed to invoke executive privilege to shield documents relating to the "unprecedented effort to obstruct the peaceful transfer of power, threatening not only the safety of Congress and others present at the Capitol, but also the principles of democracy enshrined in our history and our Constitution." The matter may ultimately have to be decided by the Supreme Court – which Trump has packed with conservative, pro-Trump Justices.

Trump could force courts to decide if executive privilege has a 'coup-plotting’ exception
The Biden White House offers a rationale that says attempts to "subvert" the Constitution shouldn't be protected by a Constitutional "executive privilege" idea.

The seven Democrats and two Republicans on the House select committee are determined to discover the truth about the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot. Retrumplicans are equally determined to whitewash the riot and paint it as a love-fest and a "tourist visit" and to protect and defend Donald Trump, to whom they have sold their souls. Trump instructed four of his closest advisers to ignore subpoenas to testify and to provide documents. Steve Bannon, one of the four, is choosing to obey Trump. Adam Schiff told MSNBC, "If witnesses do not show up, we will hold them in criminal contempt. We will vote them in contempt in the House and we will refer them for prosecution."

Pressure on January 6 panel ratchets up amid new explosion of Trump election lies
    CNN, Oct 13 2021 12:33 AM ET

The House's US Capitol insurrection probe is fast turning into a race against time, up against Republican efforts to delay an accounting on ex-President Donald Trump's coup attempt after losing the 2020 election even as he preemptively begins undermining the next one. It's hardly a shock that members of Trump's orbit are seeking to evade accountability and the rule of law. But it represents a problem for the committee nonetheless, as potential witnesses seek to drag out the process as long as possible. They do so in the knowledge that Republicans who have high hopes in the midterm elections would almost certainly shut down probes into January 6 if they reclaim the House.

There is little hope that even an expansive report on the insurrection will change the minds of millions of Republicans who are convinced that the last election was stolen from Trump and of conservative media propaganda networks. But at least there will be an accurate, institutionalized version of the truth, which will provide voters confronted with the whitewashing tactics of the GOP running into the next election a chance to find out what really happened.

He is known as "Teflon Don." Donald Trump gets away with everything he does: Lying, cheating, tax fraud, abusing women, intimidating witnesses, violating the law, violating the Constitution, violating the Presidential oath of office, attempting a coup, inciting a deadly riot – the list goes on and on.

Trump may get away with obstruction of Congress. Again.
He was impeached on that count in 2019 for his actions in the Ukraine probe but not removed by the Senate. Now he is trying to block the January 6 probe.
