Hawley was the first Senator to oppose the certification of Joe Biden as President. Hawley raised his fist in solidarity with the Capitol rioters. Hawley opposed the creation of an independent, bi-partisan committee to investigate the riot. Hawley is opposed to schools teaching anything about racism and white supremacy. Hawley is an idiot.

Josh Hawley’s legislation isn’t even about patriotism. It’s about pandering and whitewashing American history.

At today's first hearing of the House select committee investigating the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol Riot, four Capitol police officers described the "horrific" and "devastating" violence. The officers said they had "no doubt" the mob wanted to "kill or kidnap." Officer Michael Fanone said, "I was grabbed, beaten, tasered and called a traitor to my country." He testified of hearing a rioter yell, "Get his gun and kill him with it!" These are the rioters whom Donald Trump described as "loving." Retrumplicans Kevin McCarthy and Mitch McConnell, who claim to support the police, did not watch the hearing. They both said they were "too busy." Fanone said, "The indifference shown to my colleagues [by Republicans] is disgraceful!

Judges, prosecutors and security officials warn that there could be more acts of political violence committed by blindly loyal Trump supporters who believe Donald Trump's Big Lie that he won the 2020 election but it was "stolen" from him. One of those blindly loyal Trump supporters is a former police officer – and he was preparing for war.

On January 6, Mo Brooks – wearing body armor and standing behind bulletproof glass – told a crowd of blindly loyal Trump supporters, "Today is the day that American patriots start taking down names and kicking ass. Are you willing to do what it takes to fight for America? Carry the message to Capitol Hill! The fight begins today!" The riot at the Capitol left five people dead and caused a million dollars in damages. Brooks, Donald Trump, Donald Trump Jr. and Rudy Giuliani are being sued by Representative Eric Swalwell for inciting the riot.

If the January 6 rioters were just tourists, why was Mo Brooks wearing body armor?
The Alabama Republican claims his speech that day was nothing more than "a pep talk."

Retrumplicans have been downplaying the severity of the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot. They don't dare say anything that might make their idol, Donald Trump, look bad. They will probably ignore this story:

The above CNN story says an officer who responded to the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot was the third to die by suicide. We now know he was the fourth. Last week, Capitol police officers told a House investigative committee of the horrors of that day and the "mental anguish" they've experienced. Tell us again, delusional Donald, how "loving" these rioters were. Tell us again, Representative Andrew Clyde, how the riot looked like "a normal tourist visit."

Fourth police officer who responded to January 6 attack dies by suicide
    HuffPost, Aug 2 2021 10:18 PM ET
    .
Four police officers who responded to the January 6 attack on the US Capitol have now died by suicide, the Metropolitan Police Department confirmed today. Officer Kyle DeFreytag was found dead at his home last month, the agency confirmed to HuffPost. His family later said the cause was suicide. DeFreytag was 26. The news comes just hours after the Metropolitan Police Department said a third officer, Gunther Hashida, was found dead in his home on Thursday.

On March 17, 2011, the United States Senate voted 97-0 to confirm Amy Berman Jackson, a former Assistant United States Attorney for the District of Columbia, to fill a vacant seat on the United States District Court for the District of Columbia. She knows what "patriotism" is. It is not being blindly loyal to Donald Trump and believing his Big Lie of a "rigged" and "stolen" election, nor is it rioting and attempting to overturn the results of a free, fair election..

Judge to Capitol riot defendant: 'Patriotism is loyalty to country, loyalty to the Constitution’
    CNN, Aug 4 2021 1:33 PM EDT

A federal judge rejected the argument that US Capitol rioters held in jail are being prosecuted for their political views and disavowed attempts to downplay the magnitude of the deadly insurrection during a sentencing today. “You called yourself and everyone else patriots but that’s not patriotism,” Judge Amy Berman Jackson said of defendant Karl Dresch. “Patriotism is loyalty to country, loyalty to the Constitution, not loyalty to a head of state. That is the tyranny we rejected on July 4, 1776.” Jackson called Dresch an “enthusiastic participant” in the effort “to subvert democracy, to stop the will of the people and replace it with the will of the mob.”

Dresch, 41, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of illegally demonstrating in the Capitol building, which has become a typical plea deal that the Justice Department has offered to nonviolent rioters who did not go far into the building. Jackson sentenced Dresch to six months in jail. He will be released today because he has been in jail since mid-January and will receive credit for time already served.

Two Capitol rioters have pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer. What they, and all the other rioters, are most guilty of is believing The Big Lie that Donald Trump won the 2020 Presidential election "in a landslide" but the victory was "stolen" from him. If nobody had believed The Big Lie, the January 6 insurrection would never have happened.

This blindly loyal Trump supporter believed The Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 election but it was "stolen" from him. Then he heeded Trump's order to march to the Capitol and "fight like hell." Then he bragged to his co-workers that he "had a great time" and it was "the best day" of his life. Maybe he'll have a "great time" in prison.

HuffPost senior justice reporter Ryan Reilly wrote on November 20, "Enabled by top Republicans, President Donald Trump and his campaign have made wild, unsubstantiated claims about mass voter fraud in the 2020 election that threaten to undermine American faith in the electoral process and representative democracy. They also may put lives at risk. Current and former law enforcement officials told HuffPost that they’re worried conspiracy theorists will turn violent after latching onto ludicrous claims that election officials engaged in a massive criminal conspiracy to steal the election from Trump." And then Trump told his blindly loyal supporters to march to the Capitol on January 6 and "fight like hell." Trump said he would be there with them. He lied. He remained in the White House where he would be safe. I wonder what he thinks about all the rioters who have been arrested and charged with federal crimes. He's probably thinking, "Suckers!"
