Kevin McCarthy says the investigation by the House select committee – which includes two Republicans – is an "abuse of power." Yeah, how dare those committee members want Americans to know the truth about the deadly, Trump-incited Capitol riot! McCarthy has sold his soul to Donald Trump and will protect and defend him at all costs.

On December 11, 2020, Stewart Rhodes sent out an encrypted message to an invitation-only Signal chat group declaring that if President-elect Biden were to assume the Presidency, "It will be a bloody and desperate fight. We are going to have a fight. That can't be avoided." Translation: The deadly Capitol riot was not spontaneous but was planned.

Funny how a few weeks ago you had the balls to personally attack me on the sirius chat thread yet when I responded back to you and then continued to light you up like the fourth of July, your balls quickly shriveled up. Hopefully you learned your lesson. You are nothing but a huge coward Rewind. Good luck to you.

Trump told his blindly loyal supporters that the 2020 election was "rigged" and "stolen." He told them to march to the Capitol and "fight like hell" to "stop the steal." He bears responsibility for the deadly insurrection. In a radio interview six days after the riot, Kevin McCarthy said Trump admitted responsibility. McCarthy said an independent commission should investigate. He now has selective amnesia. He claims he doesn't remember making these comments. Perhaps he should listen to the audio!

The January 6 committee today issued subpoenas to former Trump attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Jenna Ellis, Sidney, Powell and Boris Epshteyn, all of whom pushed Trump's Big Lie and sought ways to overturn the 2020 election. The Committee also subpoenaed the phone records of Eric Trump and Donald Trump Jr.'s fiancée, both of whom promoted Trump's Big Lie and spoke at the rally preceding the deadly Capitol riot. The noose is tightening.

He told them they need to "stop the steal." He told them to march down Pennsylvania Avenue to the United States Capitol. He told them, "If you don't fight like hell, you're not going to have a country anymore." The ensuing riot left five people dead. Trump was impeached on a charge of inciting an insurrection – and acquitted. The vote in the Senate was 57 to 43. A conviction would have required at least 67 votes. Forty-three Retrumplicans refused to hold Trump accountable.

Senate minority leader McConnell – one of the Retrumplicans who refused to hold Trump accountable – said Trump "behaved disgracefully," committed a "dereliction of duty" and was "morally responsible" for the riot. McConnell added, "Trump is still liable for everything he did while in office. He didn't get away with anything. Yet. Yet. We have a criminal justice system in this country. We have civil litigation. Former Presidents are not immune from being held accountable by either one."

And that brings us to today's announcement by Nancy Pelosi. Trump could still face criminal charges for inciting an insurrection.

Pelosi announces plans for '9/11-type commission' to investigate Capitol attack
    CNN, Feb 15 2021 4:32 PM ET

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi today announced in a letter to House Democrats plans for the creation of a "9/11-type commission" to investigate the January 6 attack on the US Capitol. "To protect our security, our next step will be to establish an outside, independent 9/11-type commission to investigate and report on the facts and causes relating to the January 6, 2021 domestic terrorist attack upon the United States Capitol Complex," Pelosi wrote.

A commission of this nature would be established by a statute, passed by both chambers and signed into law by the President. The commission members would not be elected leaders and would be outside the government. The deadly attack prompted House Democrats to move swiftly to impeach former President Donald Trump in January. The Senate impeachment trial of the former President concluded over the weekend and ended in Trump's acquittal on a single charge of incitement of insurrection.

Looky, Looky, Lissy Lissy, Seems the Donald is not alone in his thought that elections can be stolen:

Hillary Clinton dismissed President Trump as an “illegitimate president” and suggested that “he knows” that he stole the 2016 presidential election in a CBS News interview to be aired Sunday.

Clinton was asked whether it angers her that none of the current Democratic candidates invoke her on the campaign trail while Trump’s rally crowds still break out into “lock her up” chants.

“No, it doesn’t kill me because he knows he’s an illegitimate president,” she said. “I believe he understands that the many varying tactics they used, from voter suppression and voter purging to hacking to the false stories — he knows that — there were just a bunch of different reasons why the election turned out like it did.”
