Biden today warned about the threats facing democracy at home and abroad. The biggest threat in the United States is summed up by Hakeem Jeffries, a Democratic Representative from New York, who told CNN, "Republicans throughout the country want to make it harder to vote and easier to steal an election. That’s the only way I can interpret the voter suppression epidemic that we see working its way from Georgia to Arizona to Texas and all across the country.”

The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge covers 19,286,722 acres in northeastern Alaska and is home to polar bears, grizzly bears, black bears, moose, caribou, Dall sheep, wolves, beavers, lynx, martens, wolverines, eagles and hundreds of species of migratory birds. On January 19, 2021, Trump's last day in office, his administration issued several leases allowing for oil drilling in the refuge. On the following day, newly inaugurated President Joe Biden issued an executive order for a temporary moratorium on drilling. Today he suspended the leases. Indigenous and conservation groups are urging him to make the suspension permanent.

What a difference to have a real President instead of a vain, pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, lewd, crude, vulgar, dishonest, delusional, demented, deranged, racist, sexist, self-serving white nationalist blowhard.

This article outlines what's really happening to the country since Xiden was elected. And face it, Xiden doesn't even know where he is half the time. He's in no condition to make any decisions other than if he wants vanilla or chocolate pudding for desert. His handlers are the ones calling the shots. But at least we don't have any mean tweets, right?

At least Biden knows how to spell his name and he knows how to spell "dessert." And, unlike his predecessor, he is not a science denier.

Three times while Donald Trump was President, Senate Retrumplicans voted to raise the debt ceiling – but today they unanimously voted against a House-passed bill that would extend government funding for an additional two months past September 30 and suspend the debt limit through December 16. Senate Retrumplicans don't care if our government shuts down at the end of the month. They have two main policies: Oppose everything President Biden wants to do and continue to spread The Big Lie that Trump won the 2020 Presidential election.

Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, said today the federal debt limit should be abolished because it limits the Treasury's ability to pay bills that have already been approved by Congress and the President. Retrumplicans are refusing to increase the debt ceiling – even though they raised it three times while Trump was President. Retrumplicans refuse to work with Biden. They automatically oppose everything he tries to do. Can you say "hypocrisy"? I knew you could.

Biden signs bill to avert partial government shutdown
The Associated Press, Sep 30 2021 11:11 AM

With only hours to spare, President Joe Biden today signed legislation that will avoid a partial federal shutdown and keep the government funded through December 3. Congress had passed the bill earlier. The House approved the short-term funding measure by a 254-175 vote not long after it passed the Senate in a 65-35 vote. A large majority of Republicans in both chambers voted against it. The legislation was needed to keep the government running once the current budget year ends at midnight tonight. Passage will buy lawmakers more time to craft the spending measures that will fund federal agencies and the programs they administer. With the government funded, albeit temporarily, Democrats will turn their full attention to the need to raise the limit on federal borrowing, which now stands at $28.4 trillion.

Eight months after being nominated by President Biden, Rohit Chopra has finally been approved to head the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau. All 48 Democratic Senators and two independent Senators voted for him – and 48 Retrumplicans voted against him. (Rand Paul and John Cornyn didn't vote.) Chopra is a former CFPB assistant dirertor and a member of the Federal Trade Commission. He is well qualified to head the CFPB – but financial firms contributed nearly $82 million to Retrumplican Senators last year so naturally the Retrumplicans would be opposed to anyone vowing to defend the interests of consumers. Retrumplicans favor corporations, big business and the wealthiest Americans and do not care about the middle class.

Chopra succeeds Kathy Kraninger, who had zero experience and was appointed by Trump in 2018 and pretty much told consumers they need to look out for their own interests. In fiscal 2020, the CFPB collected only 34 fines. Thirteen were for $10 or less. Prior to Trump becoming President, the CFPB returned almost $12 billion to consumers abused by financial institutions.

Janet Yellen, Secretary of the Treasury, says the United States "has always paid its bills on time" and has never defaulted on its debt. That is not true. The US government defaulted on demand notes in 1862, defaulted on gold bonds in 1933, defaulted in 1968 by refusing to redeem silver certificate paper dollars for silver dollars and defaulted in 1971 by ending its promise to redeem dollars held by foreign governments for gold under the Bretton Woods Agreement.

Senate approves short-term extension of the debt ceiling
    CBS News, Oct 7 2021 9:09 PM

The Senate today approved the short-term extension of the debt ceiling in a 50-48 vote. The bill raises the debt limit by $480 billion through December 3 and avoids a default, ending a weeks-long standoff between Democrats and Republicans as the clock ticked down toward October 18, when the U.S. was expected to run out of borrowing authority. House Majority Leader Steny Hoyer said the House will reconvene next Tuesday to vote on the bill.

Under the agreement reached tonight, if lawmakers do not use the next few months to address the debt ceiling long-term, they could end up in December back where they were at the end of September facing for a second time this year the threat of default as well as a government shutdown.
