I guess we can put this under the heading "Better late than never." Trump affirmed Murphy's decision to start the transition – and then he tweeted, "Our case STRONGLY continues, we will keep up the good fight, and I believe we will prevail!" Delusional Donald lost the popular vote by 6,069,294 and lost in the Electoral College 306 to 232 – and he still thinks he will win a second term. Wow.

GSA says Biden transition can formally begin
    CNN, Nov 23 2020 6:41 PM ET

The General Services Administration has informed President-elect Joe Biden that the Trump administration is ready to begin the formal transition process, according to a letter from Administrator Emily Murphy sent Monday afternoon and obtained by CNN. The letter is the first step the administration has taken to acknowledge President Donald Trump's defeat, 16 days after Biden was declared the winner in the election.

Murphy said she had not been pressured by the White House to delay the formal transition and did not make a decision "out of fear or favoritism." She wrote, "Please know that I came to my decision independently, based on the law and available facts. To be clear, I did not receive any direction to delay my determination." The letter signals that Murphy has formally signed off on Biden's victory, a normally perfunctory process known as ascertainment. The move will allow the transition to officially begin, permitting current administration agency officials to coordinate with the incoming Biden team and providing millions in government funding for the transition.

Yellen was President of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco, 2004-10, Vice Chair of the Federal Reserve, 2010-14; and Chair of the Federal Reserve, 2014-18. I know it is no longer fashionable to use sexist terms but it still sounds strange to hear her referred to as a "chair" instead of a "chairwoman."

Donald Trump insisted his policy was "America first." In reality, it was always Donald Trump first.

'America is back,' Biden says, as he dumps Trump's foreign policy approach
    Reuters, Nov 24 2020 3:06 AM

President-elect Joe Biden said today the United States will be "ready to lead" again on the global stage, turning the page on President Donald Trump's unilateralist policies as he pledged to work together with America's allies. Introducing his new foreign policy and national security team, Biden signaled he intends after taking office on January 20 to steer the United States away from the "America First" nationalism pursued by Trump, who has has unsettled many US allies with an antagonistic approach toward the NATO alliance and trade relations, abandonment of international agreements and warm relationships with authoritarian leaders.

"Let's begin the work to heal and unite America and the world," Biden said today. Biden's task will not be easy, though, after four years of Donald Trump doing everything he can to "Make America Hate Again" and "Make America White Again."

The swamp will finally be drained – but by Joe Biden, not Donald Trump.

Opinion: Biden's cabinet picks send a clear message
    CNN, Nov 28 2020 3:46 PM ET

With each cabinet pick, President-elect Joe Biden has conveyed the same message – government experience will matter in this administration. Thus far, Biden has put forward an impressive team of advisers with résumés that offer a stark contrast to what we have seen in the past four years. Janet Yellen, a renowned University of California economics professor and former chairwoman of the Federal Reserve, has been nominated to become Treasury secretary. Biden has nominated Antony Blinken and Jake Sullivan, both of whom worked on the most pressing foreign policy issues under the Obama administration, as secretary of state and national security adviser, respectively.

For director of national intelligence, Biden has picked Avril Haines, who was the deputy national security adviser under President Obama. To serve as a special envoy for climate change, the President-elect selected former secretary of state and US Senator John Kerry, who played a key role in negotiating the 2015 Paris Agreement. Biden chose Alejandro Mayorkas, who served as the former deputy secretary of homeland security under the Obama administration, to lead the DHS. Ron Klain, who boasts decades of experience in government, will join the Biden administration as chief of staff.

The comparison is NOT whether the choices are better than Trump's but what tendencies and history do they have vis-a-vis what the country needs - and needs to AVOID in the future.

Anyone who really knows Biden's history knows he is the wrong person to be president, now or at any time. But, much of the media protects the establishment, ergo, the "opinion" above.

The exhaustion the reasonable feel as a result of the last four years should not put us into a trance so that we miss the renewed dangers that brought us Trump in the first place.

Biden is also an adherent to the myth of government finances being like household finances. That VERY dangerous austerity will prevent the needs of the country being satisfied, especially the harm that has occurred due the pandemic.

In October, Trump called Fauci a "disaster" and inexplicably objected to Fauci's advice that wearing masks will stop the spread of COVID-19: "People are tired of hearing Fauci and all these idiots – these people that have gotten it wrong. If we listened to him, we’d have 700-800,000 deaths right now." Welcome to Trumpworld. On January 20, things will change for the better.

I wonder if the day will ever come when the news media quit feeling compelled to identify people by their skin color.

I wonder if the day will ever come that the politicians will put the country, and its citizens, ahead of corporate power, the wealthy and war-loving militarism. There should, at the least, be civilian control ALWAYS.

In April 2019, Buttigieg announced he would seek the Democratic nomination for President. He was 38 and the youngest candidate in the race. On March 1, 2020, he dropped out of the race and a day later endorsed Joe Biden. If Buttigieg is confirmed as transportation secretary, he will be better qualified to run again in 2024.
