CBS Evening News anchor Norah O'Donnell yesterday asked Hillary Clinton if she plans to run for President in 2024. "No," Clinton said, "but I’m going to do everything I can to make sure that we have a President who respects our democracy and the rule of law and upholds our institutions." O'Donnell asked, "What if Trump runs again?" Hillary declared, "He should be soundly defeated. It should start in the Republican Party. Grow a backbone! Stand up to this guy! And heaven forbid if he gets the nomination. He needs to be defeated and sent back to Mar-a-Lago.”

Will Joe Biden run for re-election? Will California Governor Gavin Newsom enter the race? Can Pete Buttigieg appeal to non-white voters? How about Bernie Sanders? – who is two years older than Biden. CNN editor-at-large Chris Cillizza ranks the potential Democratic candidates for the 2024 Presidential race.

DeSantis is expected to be re-elected Governor of Florida on November 8. His opponent is former (2007-11) Republican Governor Charlie Crist, who joined the Democratic party in 2012. DeSantis is also expected to run for President in 2024, regardless of whether Donald Trump runs. The Guardian wrote last week that DeSantis "is seen by some conservatives as a more palatable, more electable version of Trump: still outspoken against the media or perceived foes when he wants to be but less prone to explosions of temper and with a less turbulent past. DeSantis has also not been impeached twice and is not being investigated for inciting an insurrection, which could help win over wavering voters." DeSantis must be encouraged by this poll released today:

I would say Donald Trump's profile has definitely been "raised." Lately he has been the subject of two-thirds of the stories in the news!

Trump faces growing legal peril as he seeks to raise profile ahead of 2024
Trump faces at least eight ongoing criminal and civil proceedings, increasing the prospect of becoming the first former US President to face indictment after leaving office.

Biden has not yet confirmed that he will run for re-election – but Cedric Richmond, a former Biden adviser who became a senior adviser to the Democratic National Committee in May, said last week, "He’s running and we’re building an infrastructure for him to run and win."

Cheney is one of very few Republicans who still exist. An overwhelming majority of party members have become Retrumplicans, blindly loyal members of The Cult Of Donald Trump who inexplicably worship Trump and believe he can do no wrong.

Liz Cheney says she will not remain a Republican if Donald Trump is GOP nominee in 2024

In the latest Associated Press-NORC poll, 78% of Democrats approve of Joe Biden's performance as President. Among Retrumplicans, only 10% approve. Overall, 45% of Americans approve of Biden's performance while 53% disapprove. Biden's support has risen nine points since July but inflation continues to be a major concern, with only 38% approving of Biden's handling of the economy.

Democrats are warming to a Biden 2024 campaign. They're just not sure if he'll run.

This is the first time I've ever agreed with Ron DeSantis about anything.

As we expected. Now let's hope that in the next two years the economy improves and gasoline prices drop.
