Worldwide, there are now 109,970 confirmed cases of the COVID-19 virus. There have been 3,827 deaths, including 3,119 in China and 22 in the United States. Costco CEO Walter Craig Jelinek isn't fearful, though. He's happy because he can echo the immortal words of Mad magazine's Alfred E. Neuman: "What, me worry?" It's comforting to know he has his priorities straight.

King Donald the First has a galaxy-sized ego and believes everything is about him. Everything – even the COVID-19 virus. Yes, indeed. King Donald insists he (apparently all by himself) has the coronavirus under control in the United States but those darned news outlets, which he calls "the enemy of the American people," are exaggerating the danger in order to make him look bad and get him out of office.

Frustration inside White House over mixed coronavirus messaging
    NBC News, Mar 8 2020 6:25 PM

White House officials are growing increasingly frustrated in what they see as President Donald Trump's consistent bids to downplay the severity of the quickly-spreading coronavirus outbreak, a tendency that has led to a clash in messaging with public health officials. Those mixed signals were on display today as Tony Fauci, the top infectious disease doctor at the National Institutes of Health, warned the elderly and medically vulnerable to avoid large crowds and not to take long trips or cruises and Surgeon General Jerome Adams told the public to be prepared for more cases and fatalities. But the message Sunday morning from Trump on Twitter was praise for his administration's response, which he called a "perfectly coordinated and fine tuned plan," and blame for the media, which he said was "doing everything possible to make us look bad." White House officials acknowledge Trump is simply not on the same wavelength as his team but say there isn't much they can do to change his public tone.

"The coronavirus is contained." Wrong. "The number of cases is going down." Wrong. "We'll have a vaccine soon." Wrong. "I have a 'hunch' the death rate is less than 3.4%." Wrong. "The news media are politicizing the coronavirus to try to get me out of office." Wrong. When our nation is facing a health crisis, we need a leader. Instead we have a liar.

'We’re past the point of containment': Coronavirus fight enters new phase

"Bioterrorism attack: China creates virus to destroy America." That is one of the front-page headlines of the National Enquirer. Yeah, China's evil scheme is really proving effective. There have been 3,136 deaths in China and 30 in the United States. The Enquirer should go back to their "Bat-Boy" and "Elvis is alive" stories.

UCLA is moving most of its classes to online only, joining Harvard, Princeton, UC Berkeley, UC San Diego and many other colleges and universities. UCLA is also banning fans from its basketball games. Can you say "over-reacting"? I knew you could. But at least our nation's students will be safe. They won't be getting any smarter, however.
