CNN White House reporter Stephen Collinson says "attention will inevitably focus on the hubris of a President who mocked mask wearing and social distancing, ignored and downplayed the virus, courted disaster with packed campaign rallies, ridiculed his Democratic opponent Joe Biden for taking prudent precautions and even now says the emergency is almost over." Two days ago at the 75th Annual Alfred E. Smith Memorial Foundation Dinner – a virtual event this year – Trump vowed the US will "defeat the virus" in memory of "all of those who lost a loved one." Yeah, how's that working out?

Donald and Melania Trump contracted COVID-19. Hope Hicks, Kayleigh McEnany, Kellyanne Conway, Nicholas Luna, campaign manager Bill Stepien, RNC chairwoman Ronna McDaniel and assistant press secretaries Chad Gilmartin and Karoline Leavitt are among the many Trump aides and associates who have tested positive for COVID-19. Trump is finally acknowledging the danger of COVID-19, right? Wrong.

What has Donald Trump learned? Apparently nothing.

Trump returns to White House and removes mask despite having COVID
    CNN. Oct 5 2020 7:40 PM ET

President Donald Trump staged a reckless departure from Walter Reed National Military Medical Center on todday, telling his followers the virus that dangerously deprived him of oxygen and hospitalized him for 72 hours was nothing to fear before posing for a mask-less photo-op on the White House balcony. It was a remarkable attempt to convert his still-ongoing disease into a show of strength, even as it underscored his longstanding practice of denying the pandemic's severity and downplaying its risks despite the more than 200,000 Americans dead.

The coronavirus is "disappearing"? Really? And Trump has "done more for the Black community than any President since Abraham Lincoln"? Really? Our crooked, corrupt, dishonest, lying, self-serving, conspiracy-theory-spreading President keeps hundreds of fact checkers busy 24 hours a day. I guess we can say he's keeping at least one segment of the population employed.

Trump called his COVID-19 infection a "blessing from God" and insists he now feels better than he has in 20 years. He's lying, of course, just as he's lying about being immune to another infection.

Twitter flags Trump tweet for violating its rules on COVID-19 information
    Reuters, Oct 11 2020

Twitter today flagged a tweet by Donald Trump in which the President claimed he was immune to the coronavirus. “A total and complete sign off from White House Doctors yesterday. That means I can’t get it (immune) and can’t give it. Very nice to know,” Trump said in the tweet. The post was flagged by Twitter with a disclaimer: "This Tweet violated the Twitter Rules about spreading misleading and potentially harmful information related to COVID-19." Twitter determined that it may be in the public’s interest for the tweet to remain accessible. The scientific evidence is unclear on how long people who have recovered from COVID-19 have antibodies and are protected from a second infection.
