Blame the COVID-19 virus. It's fine with me, though. I think flowers that are alive and growing are much prettier than flowers that have been cut off and glued to parade floats.

Rose Parade canceled for first time since World War II

Worldwide, there have been 13,924,300 confirmed cases of COVID-19 and 591,835 deaths. In the United States, there have been 3,683,320 confirmed cases and 141,016 deaths. Here is a Republican who blames the news media for the rise in coronavirus cases – and, for once, it's somebody besides Donald Trump:

Governor DeSantis blames media for Florida's COVID-19 response
CNN's Brianna Keilar points out the inaccuracies in DeSantis' argument that the media stopped asking about coronavirus in May and is to blame for the public becoming complacent and cases rising.

Speaking today at a United States Chamber of Commerce "virtual event," Dr. Anthony Fauci said, "We feel cautiously optimistic that we are on the road to getting this under control. We will ultimately get back to normal." Ummm.......yeah, okay.

The global death toll from COVID-19 is now 607,066. In the United States, 143,167 have died – and the vain, pompous, narcissistic, egotistical blowhard in the White House is continuing to play doctor. He really needs to Just. Shut. Up.

Trump flails in interview with Wallace, citing false and nonexistent data on COVID-19
    Yahoo News, Jul 19 2020 12:26 PM

In an interview with Fox News' Chris Wallace that aired today, President Trump defended his handling of the coronavirus pandemic – with incorrect data that had to be corrected by Wallace – and insisted that Vice President Joe Biden wants to defund the police, which Wallace disputed. The White House was unable to provide any evidence for the claim.

Trump continued his long effort to minimize the risk from COVID-19, insisting the coronavirus will disappear on its own, an assertion he first made on January 22 when he said, "We have it under control. It’s going to be just fine." Trump declared to Wallace, "I'll be right eventually. I will be right eventually. You know I said it's going to disappear. I'll say it again." Trump also claimed the coronavirus isn't actually all that bad: "Many of those cases are young people that would heal in a day. They have the sniffles and we put it down as a test. I guess it's like 99.7%. People are going to get better and in many cases they’re going to get better very quickly."

You know the orange-skinned parrot is really spiraling out of control when he starts squawking "Fake news! Fake news! Awwwrkkk!" at a news anchor at his beloved Fox News channel. The only "fake news" is coming from Donald Trump. The United States' COVID-19 death toll is now 143,537.

Trump says the US has 'the best mortality rate' in the world. That's not true.
    CNN, Jul 20 2020 2:07 PM ET

During a meandering and occasionally hostile interview with Fox News on Sunday, President Donald Trump made a very bold claim: that the United States has the lowest mortality rate from Covid-19 anywhere in the world. "I heard we have one of the lowest, maybe the lowest, mortality rate anywhere in the world," Trump told Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace. "Do you have the numbers, please? I heard we had the best mortality rate," he added to White House press secretary Kayleigh McEnany, who was off-camera.

When McEnany returned with a piece of paper, Trump turned on Wallace. "Number one low mortality rate," he said, attacking Wallace for reporting "fake news" in the process. "You said we had the worst mortality rate in the world and we have the best." But the President's claim is not true. It's not even close. The US ranks eighth in total COVID-19 deaths per 100,000 people, below a number of European hotbeds and Chile but above other badly-hit South American and Asian countries.

Today, Donald Trump didn't repeat the lie that he told Sunday, that the United States has "one of the lowest, maybe the lowest, mortality rate anywhere in the world." No, today he claimed the United States' COVID-19 mortality rate is "lower than the European Union and almost everywhere else in the world." That, too, is a lie. Just figure everything Trump says is a lie. The COVID-19 death toll is now 144,953 in the US, 81,597 in Brazil, 45,422 in the UK, 40,400 in Mexico, 35,073 in Italy and 619,465 worldwide.

Fact check: At his first coronavirus briefing since April, Trump repeats a handful of classic false claims

The COVID-19 death toll in the United States is now 145,786 – and Senate Republicans' blind loyalty and devotion to Donald Trump are starting to erode.

Senate GOP balks at Trump's call to withhold federal dollars from closed schools
    CNN, Jul 22 2020 4:45 PM ET

Republicans in the Senate are roundly dismissing President Donald Trump's call to withhold more federal aid from schools that remain shuttered during the coronavirus pandemic, the latest sign of a split between the White House and the GOP over their party's response to the public health emergency. As negotiations within the party continued today, GOP senators made clear there were a number of White House demands that they are unlikely to embrace, including the President's demands to cut payroll taxes and to pull back on funding for coronavirus testing and tracing.

The United States' death toll from COVID-19 is now 146,183 and our racist, bigoted, white nationalist President is once again attacking Mexicans. He declared – without any evidence – that migrants from Mexico are partly to blame for our nation's surging number of coronavirus cases. By the way, there have been 4,100,875 confirmed cases of coronavirus in the US and only 362,274 in Mexico.

Fact check: Trump falsely suggests kids don't transmit coronavirus and that US case surge is due in part to protests and Mexican migration

There have been 4,148,775 confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the United States. The death toll is now 146,891. Just in the past 24 hours, there have been 47,900 new cases and 708 deaths. The vain, pompous, egotistical, narcissistic, delusional blowhard in the White House continues to believe he knows more about the coronavirus than all the world's medical experts combined. Why can't he just shut up and quit trying to play doctor? He's playing with Americans' lives.
