Pelosi announces impeachment inquiry of Trump

Pro-Trump, anti-Clinton propaganda spread by Russian trolls at the direction of Vladimir Putin helped Donald Trump win the 2016 Presidential election. Trump has never confronted his BFF Vladimir about Russia's election meddling. He was grateful for the help. Amid polls showing Joe Biden beating Trump by double digits in 2020, Trump has once again sought help from a foreign power to help him win an election.

Until recently, House Speaker Nancy Pelosi had refused to consider an impeachment inquiry of Donald Trump, believing it would be too divisive. A majority of Americans oppose impeachment and Senate Republicans – who place their party above the good of the nation – would never vote to remove Trump from office. Being impeached could also boost Trump's chance of re-election in 2020. Trump's phone call to Ukraine's President led Pelosi to reconsider. "The President is making lawlessness a virtue in our country," she said today. "We don't ask foreign governments to help in our elections. That's what we tried to stop with Russia. It's wrong."

Emperor Trump's predictable response: "This is nothing more than a continuation of the greatest and most destructive witch hunt of all time!"

This Washington Post story says impeachment could "overturn the US voters' decision in 2016 to elect Trump." Actually, the "US voters" preferred Hillary Clinton, who got 65,844,610 votes (48.2%). Trump got 62,979,636 votes (46.1%) but he became the fifth loser to be awarded the Presidency by the 18th-century relic known as the Electoral College, which often disregards the will of the majority.

More than two-thirds of House Democrats support an impeachment inquiry and the number is growing. Nancy Pelosi just made the official announcement at a news conference:

Trump brags about being a "great negotiator" and a "great deal-maker." He is neither – and he's learning the hard way that the Constitution, the rule of law and our nation's system of checks and balances are not negotiable.

Trump tried to negotiate with Pelosi on the whistleblower complaint after she announced an impeachment inquiry. She told him to take a hike.

Trump told reporters today, "It doesn't matter what I discussed" with Volodymyr Zelensky. You're wrong, Emperor Trump. It does matter. You are not above the law, even though you believe you are. Here are some more strands to add to Trump's tangled web:

Everybody is talking about impeachment. From what I understand, the House is only investigating to determine if Trump committed "high crimes and misdemeanors." Maybe he will be impeached, maybe he won't.

Without giving any reason to Mitch McConnell or other Republicans, Trump withheld Congressionally-approved military aid to Ukraine, then tried to pressure Ukraine's President to dig up dirt on Joe Biden and Hunter Biden. Adam Schiff, the top House Democrat, calls Trump's actions a "Mafia-like shakedown." Trump, of course, called his actions "appropriate" and said there was no connection between his withholding of aid and his urging Ukraine's President to investigate Trump's political rival. Yeah. Uh-huh. As Nancy Pelosi observed, Trump's actions reveal a "betrayal of his oath of office, betrayal of our national security and betrayal of the integrity of our elections. "

We now learn Emperor Trump wanted the Attorney General of the United States to work with Volodymyr Zelensky to dig up dirt on Joe Biden, who could be Trump's opponent in 2020. Trump may not know how to spell "abuse of power" but he certainly is guilty of it. Almost everything he does, or tries to do, is for the benefit of himself.

Emperor Trump insists the White House is not in chaos and is a "smooth-running machine." Welcome to Trumpworld. Joseph Maguire is expected to speak before Congress tomorrow regarding the whistleblower complaint against Trump. He says he is upholding his responsibility to "follow the law every step of the way." It's unfortunate for our nation that Trump can't do the same.

The White House just released a five-page memo detailing Trump's phone call with Volodymyr Zelensky. Trump says it is a "transcript." It is not. It is a summary which includes "the notes and recollections of Situation Room Duty Officers and National Security Council policy staff assigned to listen and memorialize the conversation in written form as the conversation takes place."

Yahoo News' Andrew Romano explains why an impeachment, contrary to what Trump believes, is unlikely to boost Trump's chances of winning in 2020:

Trump says impeachment will be 'a positive for me in the election.' Will it?
