This is outrageous! A federal judge has overturned California's ban on assault weapons, a ban which has been in place since 1989. He compared the AR-15 assault rifle to the Swiss army knife! And of course he cited the Second Amendment while completely ignoring the part about a "well-regulated militia" and ignoring the large number of mass shootings committed by gunmen armed with assault weapons. California will appeal the ruling. In 2020, this same judge blocked a California law requiring background checks for anyone buying ammunition.

The shooters at Sandy Hook Elementary, the Texas church, the Pittsburgh synagogue, the Colorado movie theater and the Las Vegas music festival all used assault rifles. Nobody but the military should be allowed to have them.

As the nation marks the fifth anniversary of the Pulse nightclub massacre in Orlando, it has a staggering and grim new statistic to contend with for 2021. So far this year, we have suffered 267 mass shootings. That's the new tally after four incidents occurred across the country between Friday afternoon and early Saturday morning. Gunmen killed at least two people and injured at least 34 more in Austin, Dallas, Savannah and Chicago.

9th Circuit Court of Appeals today blocked the federal judge's decision to overturn California's assault weapons ban. This will probably wind up before the Supreme Court.
