"You're buying body armor and a 100-round ammo magazine and you don't want your parents to know? That's cool with me, bro. Certainly nothing suspicious about that." Sheesh! If this schmuck had reported Betts' purchases to the police, the Dayton massacre might have been prevented.

Prosecutors say Ohio shooter's friend bought him armor
The Associated Press, Aug 12 2019 1:40 PM

A man told federal agents he bought body armor, a gun accessory and a 100-round magazine for the Dayton gunman earlier this year, according to a court document unsealed today. Federal investigators emphasized there no was indication that Ethan Kollie knew that his friend, Connor Betts, was planning a mass shooting or how he would use the equipment. The charging document says Kollie kept the equipment at his apartment so Betts' parents would not find it. Kollie is not accused of intentionally taking part in the planning of the shooting.

This proposed insurance would cover accidental shootings as well as intentional shootings committed by someone with a borrowed or stolen gun. Gunowners who have to buy insurance will probably be more careful with how they handle their guns and will probably be more likely to keep their weapons locked up when not in use. This is one small step for a California city but could be a giant leap for mankind if other cities and states follow suit.

Emperor Trump doesn't see white supremacism as a rising threat, nor do his blindly loyal supporters. Trump went so far as to say many white supremacists and neo-Nazis are "very fine people." Nazmus Sakib, a PhD candidate and political science research assistant at the University of Texas, notes that the majority of domestic mass shootings are committed by white supremacists and are strategic, organized attacks that have much in common with Al Qaeda suicide bombings.

Opinion: White supremacism is the new Al Qaeda. It's time America took it as seriously.

The number of right-wing, white nationalist extremists in the United States is increasing. Many espouse mass shootings, assaults and other forms of violence. Here is one such extremist who was identified and apprehended before he could carry out a massacre:

CNN is reporting that a gunman is still shooting at police during a standoff in Nicetown, Pennsylvania. Six officers have been wounded but none of the injuries is life-threatening. Doesn't the NRA tell us a good guy with a gun always stops a bad guy with a gun? Often, certainly – but not always. In the past week, four Southern California cops were shot by bad guys. Two died and one remains in critical condition.

Officers went to serve a drug warrant and six of them wound up getting shot. All six have been treated and released. Tonight at a press conference, Philadelphia Mayor Jim Kenney called for more gun control legislation to help police keep guns out of the hands of criminals. He said, "If the state and federal government don't want to stand up to the NRA, then let us police ourselves. But they preempt us on all kinds of gun control legislation. Our officers deserve to be protected and don't deserve to be shot at for hours by a guy with an unlimited supply of weapons and an unlimited supply of bullets."

In retrospect, Trump's "Make America Hate Again" and "Make America White Again" programs were not such a good idea.

Trump attacks Mexicans, attacks Muslims, pledges to build a border wall, bans visitors from certain countries, restricts legal immigration and calls asylum seekers an "invasion" – and sees absolutely no connection between his hateful, divisive rhetoric and the rise of white nationalist groups and the increase in domestic terror attacks. Welcome to Trumpworld.

He lost his job, he lost his girlfriend, he had a .22-caliber rifle and 400 rounds of ammunition and he wanted to commit a mass shooting. He texted his ex-girlfriend: "A good 100 kills would be nice. I'd wanna break a world record for longest confirmed kill ever." She wisely notified police.
