Mueller is slowly but steadily working his way to the top: The President of the United States.

Rick Gates to plead guilty in Russia probe
    Reuters, Feb 23 2018 1:20 PM

Rick Gates, a former deputy campaign manager for Donald Trump's 2016 presidential campaign, will plead guilty today to conspiracy against the United States and lying to investigators, according to court documents, in a sign he will likely cooperate with a federal probe into Russia's role in the election. Gates had been facing much more serious charges including bank fraud and conspiracy to launder money. A guilty plea by Gates would increase pressure on Manafort to also seek a plea deal. Cooperation by the two could potentially provide a rich vein of information for special counsel Robert Mueller, who is also investigating whether Trump's campaign colluded with Moscow to interfere in the election.

White House communications director Hope Hicks admitted yesterday that she tells "white lies" for Trump but, she claims, not about Russia. Yeah, sure, uh-huh, okay. Meanwhile:

For the sake of our democracy and the integrity of our elections, I hope Mueller can ferret out the truth -- but it will be a formidable task. He's investigating a man who has told more than 3,000 lies since becoming President and can not be expected to be honest about his Russia ties:

Mueller asking what Trump knew about hacked emails
    NBC News, Feb 28 2018 2:16 PM

Special Counsel Robert Mueller's team is asking witnesses pointed questions about whether Donald Trump was aware that Democratic emails had been stolen before that was publicly known and whether he was involved in their strategic release. Mueller's investigators have asked witnesses whether Trump was aware of plans for WikiLeaks to publish the emails. They have also asked about the relationship between GOP operative Roger Stone and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange and why Trump took policy positions favorable to Russia.

The line of questioning suggests the special counsel, who is tasked with examining whether there was collusion between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 election, is looking into possible coordination between WikiLeaks and Trump associates in disseminating the emails, which U.S. intelligence officials say were stolen by Russia.

Hicks was a fashion model before joining the Trump campaign as press secretary. As White House communications director, she was Trump's longest-serving aide. Today, one day after admitting she lies for Trump ("but not about Russia") she resigned.

The President continues to insist the Russia investigation is "fake news," a "witch hunt" and a "hoax created by the Democrats." I guess he forgot to tell Robert Mueller.

The Foreign Agents Registration Act was passed in 1938 and was intended to flush out Nazi agents in the United States prior to World War II. Now it's flushing out Russian agents in the United States.

These poll results are not surprising. After all, we have a President who said he believes Vladimir Putin did not meddle in our 2016 election (because "Putin said he didn't") -- even though every US intelligence agency says otherwise and even though Google, Twitter and Facebook have uncovered thousands of fake accounts, fake ads and fake posts created by Russian hackers.

The Kremlin did not want the "hawkish" Mitt Romney to be our secretary of state. Trump wound up selecting a former Exxon Mobil CEO with deep ties to Russia. And the web continues to get more and more tangled.

Sam Nunberg today granted interviews to MSNBC's Katy Tur and CNN's Jake Tapper, Gloria Borger and Erin Burnett, declaring that he will ignore a subpoena requiring him to appear before a grand jury on Friday and turn over any emails, letters and other records involving Trump, Hope Hicks, Roger Stone, Stephen Bannon and six others. Addressing special counsel Robert Mueller, Nunberg said, "I'm not cooperating. Arrest me." If he really does defy a federal subpoena, he will get his wish.
