I think the people at PETA are as crazy as a loon and as dumb as a dodo bird. If they honestly expect us to clam up and not use "anti-animal" phrases, they're beating a dead horse.

While this news is discouraging, I still hold out hope that tic-tac-toe, arm wrestling and Pokémon GO will someday be included in the Summer Olympics.

Olympic leaders cool to the idea of adding video games to their Games
Los Angeles Times, Dec 8 2018 12:55 PM

How far will Olympic leaders go to attract a younger audience? For now, at least, they seem to be drawing the line at video games. Not long after expressing interest in e-sports, representatives of the Olympic movement issued a statement today explaining that "a discussion about the inclusion is premature." Their decision emerged from a major summit in Lausanne, Switzerland, where attendees expressed numerous concerns. They found some games too violent to be compatible with Olympic values and worried that the industry is too fragmented to accommodate an international governing body. They also balked at referring to video games as a "sport."

Some drivers think they can avoid paying tolls by covering part of their license plate to fool the toll road cameras. This schmuck may have fooled the camera -- but he didn't fool a highway patrolman.

He's traveling only one to two miles an hour. It would have more sense for this Frenchman to try to float across the Seine, the Loire, the Meuse or the Dardogne -- but, hey, I wish him good luck. He just might make it all the way across the Atlantic.

    Tokyo man marries computer-generated hologram
    CNN, Dec 29 2018 12:19 PM

Akihiko Kondo doesn't have the air of a rebel. This year, however, the bespectacled school administrator bucked conventional norms. He married a hologram. Kondo's November wedding to cyber celebrity Hatsune Miku -- which is not legally recognized -- provoked mixed reactions in Japan and abroad. Some were dumbfounded by his choice of a three-dimensional laser image over a human. Others congratulated him. But the 35-year-old, whose spartan home on the outskirts of Tokyo is dotted with plush Miku dolls and paraphernalia, doesn't care what others think. He simply did what made him happy.

Remember Dead Skunk, the 1973 hit by Loudon Wainwright III? One line says, "Got your dead rabbit and your dead raccoon." Yeah, that's the song. You remember it now? And you know the old saying, "Truth is stranger than fiction"?

Crew members said passengers were complaining about this man's body order. The man believes he was kicked off the plane because he was Jewish. He is wrong -- unless he can find evidence that no Gentiles with body odor have ever been kicked off a plane.

Florida city commissioner resigns following complaints she licked men's faces, groped them
    NBC News, Feb 7 2019 10:50 AM

The city commissioner of a small beach town in Florida has resigned after being censured amid complaints she allegedly licked her male co-workers' faces and groped them during meetings and events. Nancy Oakley, who served as Madeira Beach city commissioner from 2007 to 2013 and again from 2017 to 2019, submitted her letter of resignation Tuesday. The Florida Commission on Ethics found that Oakley violated the state's ethics code by "misusing her position by exhibiting inappropriate behavior toward city staff."

Sometimes I wonder if Florida residents know their state is notorious for weird news stories. Based on this Miami Herald headline.......yes, they are.

Maternity photo shows mom-to-be posing with gator, shotgun and beer. Because Florida.
Photo goes viral after Lindsey and Jonathan Tuttle pose with a baby alligator, shotgun, case of Bud Light and state flag in Tampa.
