The rapidly-spreading coronavirus pandemic, which has now killed 9,989 people worldwide, has forced the cancellation of baseball, football, hockey, soccer, auto racing and other sports. The 2020 regular baseball season will likely not begin until mid-May and may be canceled altogether.......along with the draft.

In 2013, the Dodgers entered into a 25-year, $8.35-billion deal with Time Warner (now Spectrum) to create their own cable channel, SportsNet LA. The Dodgers thought all the local television providers would gladly pay the fees to carry the channel. They were wrong. For more than six years, a majority of residents of southern California have been unable to watch the Dodgers on television. It is with deep delight that I divulge the dismal Dodger drought is dead and done. Of course the COVID-19 pandemic has forced the postponement of the 2020 season – but when games finally begin we'll be able to see them. Go, Dodgers!

Dodger games to be broadcast on DIRECTV after Spectrum announces deal with AT&T, ending longtime blackout
SportsNet LA will be available on DIRECTV, U-Verse, AT&T TV and AT&T Now in Southern California, Las Vegas and Hawai'i.

The Mets began play in 1962. They've won six National League East division titles, six National League pennants and two World Series (1969, 1986). Pending the approval of at least 23 MLB team owners, Steve Cohen will become the new owner of the Mets.

What a dumb name. I won't be thinking of Bryan Shaw, Zach Plesac, Owen Miller, Bobby Bradley and José Ramirez. I'll be thinking of Star-Lord, Gamora, Groot, Rocket Raccoon and Drax the Destroyer.

Last night the Atlanta Braves beat the Houston Astros to win the 2021 World Series, four games to two. At each game, Braves fans repeatedly did their idiotic chanting and "tomahawk chop" gestures. Fawn Sharp, president of the National Congress of American Indians, said "degrading rituals like the tomahawk chop that dehumanize and harm us have no place in American society." True – but a majority of Braves fans don't care.

"This is pathetic and disgusting," one Atlanta supporter wrote after the team's victory.
