    The baseball thread

Baseball is often called "America's greatest pastime." In the 21st century, spending several hours a day on cellphones and other mobile devices seems to be the greatest pastime. But I digress. This thread is devoted to baseball: the games, the teams, the players, the feats, the records and anything else baseball-related. This is not my personal blog. I'm starting this thread in the hope that other baseball fans participate by sharing stories and opinions. Play ball!

Six thousand, one hundred five home runs were hit in the Major Leagues in 2017. That is a record. Well.......

MLB insists the baseball is not juiced but has a committee studying it anyway
Many players said this year the baseball itself is different than in previous years.

Denton "Cy" Young pitched for five different teams and won a record 511 games in his 22-year career (1890-1911.) A year after he died in 1955, the annual Cy Young Award was established to honor the best pitcher in the major leagues. Since 1967, the best pitcher in each league is honored. Here are the award winners for 2017:

Nationals' Max Scherzter, Indians' Corey Kluber win Cy Young Awards by wide margins

Joe Morgan, a former second baseman who is in the Baseball Hall Of Fame, sent a letter November 21 to every member of the Baseball Writers Association Of America to urge them to not vote any steroid user, such as Barry Bonds, Roger Clemens and Manny Ramirez, into the Hall Of Fame. Uh, Joe? Don't look now but many steroid users are already in the Hall Of Fame.

I saw on ESPN that Shohei Ohtani is going to sign with the Angels. People call him the Babe Ruth of Japan. He is a good fastball pitcher and a good hitter.

The Yankees just traded five players to Miami and got Giancarlo Stanton. I saw his press conference on ESPN. He will wear number 27. He hit 59 home runs last year and I think he will help the Yankees get to the World Series next year.

Carlos Santana played first base with Cleveland for several years. ESPN says he just signed with the Phillies for three years and 60 million dollars. He is a pretty good home run hitter but I don't think he is worth that much money.
