    Pacific Gas & Electric -- the band, not the utility company -- had a #14 hit in 1970 with Are You Ready. A year later, under pressure from the utility company, the band changed its name to PG&E. Another year later, the band broke up.

    The indie rock band The World Is A Beautiful Place & I Am No Longer Afraid To Die, usually abbreviated to TWIABP, formed in 2009 in Connecticut and has released five albums, eight EPs and three singles. Tom Diaz was a founding member and the band's lead singer, guitarist and keyboardist until 2012.

    The Fame theme song written by Michael Gore and Dean Patchford proclaims, "I'm gonna live forever." The man who played vice principal Quentin Morloch made it to only 85. Ken Swofford also appeared in Annie, Skyjacked, Thelma & Louise and The Andromeda Strain and in episodes of dozens of tv series including Dallas, Dynasty, Gunsmoke, Police Story, Simon & Simon, Murder She Wrote and The Rockford Files.

    Deerhunter -- they call themselves an "ambient punk band," whatever that means -- formed in 2001 in Atlanta. As a member from 2004 to 2012, Fauver played on four albums and two EPs. Among Deerhunter's best-known songs: Oceans, Snakeskin and Memory Boy.

    Joe Clayton, a veteran of the telecom and consumer-electronics industries who served as CEO of Dish Network and Sirius Satellite Radio, died November 3 after a brief illness. He was 69. He served as president and CEO of Dish from June 2011 until his retirement in March 2015. Prior to that, he served as CEO of Sirius Satellite Radio (which later merged with XM to become SiriusXM) from 2001-04 and as chairman from 2004-08.

    Before joining Sirius, Clayton was president of telecommunications firm Global Crossing North America and president and CEO of Frontier Corporation. In the 1990s, Clayton was Thomson Consumer Electronics' head of marketing and sales for the Americas and Asia and helped launch DIRECTV in 1994 with Hughes Electronics. He started his career in 1973 as a marketing associate for RCA in New York City.

    Francis Lai's Theme From Love Story was a #31 hit in 1971. A version by Henry Mancini reached #13 and a vocal version by Andy Williams reached #9.

    Several rock bands, including Rasputina, Apocalyptica, Air Lake, Well-Known Strangers and Break Of Reality, have had at least one cello player. Only one such band found major success -- and their cellist just died.

    Born in Winnipeg, Rain appeared in dozens of plays, tv-movies and miniseries but is best known for voicing HAL 9000, a computer with artificial intelligence, in 2001: A Space Odyssey (1968) and the sequel 2010 (1984). "HAL" stands for "Heuristically programmed ALgorithmic computer" -- but let's just stick with HAL.
