Shange's 1975 work For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide/When The Rainbow Is Enuf was turned into a Broadway play, a made-for-tv movie and a theatrical movie. Shange said she used the word "colored" because that is how her grandmother referred to black people and she wanted a title her grandmother would understand. But actually, every person is "colored." I have yet to meet anyone whose body is clear and see-through.
