    The Band formed in 1967 in Toronto. All five members had previously been in Ronnie Hawkins' band, the Hawks. Among the Band's hits: The Weight, The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, Up On Cripple Creek, Rag Mama Rag, Don't Do It and I Shall Be Released.

    Jones' best-known song is Try To Remember from the musical The Fantasticks. Ed Ames, Roger Williams and the Brothers Four had hit versions of the song in 1965. Gladys Knight reached #11 on the Hot 100 in 1975 with a medley of The Way We Were and Try To Remember.

    Herb Alpert and Jerry Moss founded Carnival Records in 1961. In July 1962, the label released two singles, one by Charlie Robinson and one by Herb Alpert (as "Dore Alpert"). Alpert and Moss then discovered there was another label with that name so they renamed Carnival A&M. Among A&M's artists were Cat Stevens, Janet Jackson, Burt Bacharach, Wes Montgomery, Human League, Styx, Nazareth, the Police, the Carpenters, the Captain & Tennille, Sérgio Mendes & Brasil '66 and Herb Alpert & the Tijuana Brass.
