Patti LaBelle & The Blue Belles formed in 1962 in Philadelphia. The group included Sarah Dash, Nona Hendryx and Cindy Birdsong (who would leave in 1967 and replace Florence Ballard in the Supremes). The Blue Belles' hits include Down The Aisle and You'll Never Walk Alone. (I Sold My Heart To The Junkman was released as a Blue Belles single but was actually recorded by the Starlets, a trio from New Jersey.) The group became Labelle in 1971 and had a number-one hit in March 1975 with Lady Marmalade. Sarah Dash had two top-ten dance/disco hits, Sinner Man in 1979 and Lucky Tonight in 1983.
